raceTech emulators. Anybody got them?

In an attempt to sort out the dreadful Mono lever front ends Colt and myself now have a pair of Racetech emulators each. To fit them you rip out the original damping mechanism and fit the Racetech between the main spring and the end of the damper rod. I've a couple of concerns:-

The first that will probably need a special adapter making to maintain an unrestricted oil flow through the damper.

The second is that fitting the RaceTechs will put more preload on the main spring. this can be offset to a certain degree by removing the preload spacer that normally fits under the damper tube on the g/s.

Anybody fitted them?

Nothing wrong with the forks as such but the damping is terrible. I've got a new Wilbers on the rear of the bike which really shows the front up. If I can get the damping working it should work well. I've tried various fork springs and damping oils but still remain unhappy with the front end.

I have access to very well kitted out machine shops and experienced machinists so should be able to come up with something.

Rob, be sure to post a report. It seems a very good way [cheap?] to improve the fork movement.

I did take a fancy to the HPN cartridges, may give them a call tomorrow to see what the damage would be

When you get a set of progressive fork springs for a GS they come with a section of PVC pipe Quality.

The cartridges are for the Paralever front end I believe. Cost around 420 Euros + tax

I fitted a pair of Emulators to my V-Max. It was an easy enough job to do, BUT at the end of the day I can't say I noticed very much difference .

Would it not be better to look for a better quality pair of forks to fit on the bike?

Also; as you have access to tooling, it might be worth trying something simple like adding or blocking some of the current holes in the damper rod to give the damping you seek.

I've just spoken to Maxton Engineering. They will throw away the fork internals and fit their own cartride system and springs for £400 + vat. Setting up the front end for my weight and use. This may be a much better way to go.

I'm going to ship the forks up to them over the next few weeks to see if they can do the mod on these forks.

OK, I speak as a g/s owner here, so please don't take offence....

Buuuuttttt, that seems a helluva lot of wonga to blow on a set of forks for these old things. An upgrade for a few quid, maybe up to a hundred or so, fairy nuff. But 400 sheets plus the VAT . Would it not be better/easier just to buy a better bike....

When the forks on my g/s really start to bug me (which is a very long way off, cos I ride like Miss Marple ), I'm gonna flog it and get something better all round.

Any of you guys tried to fit paralever GS 40mm Marzocchi forks to the mono, to replace the 36mm BM ones

Kenny seems to have tried all the other para parts on his mono

Could be a cheap solution?

Migsel has them fitted to his Mono. Easy mod as it fits straight in. The forks are longer though so comes with other issues.

I wanted to keep the original look of the bike but bring the forks up to date.
