I know it's only slight damage, but it shows they need protecting ... This is only after 1000 miles

Good job Santa got me some :thumb2

Which ones did you get? I've heard that some can cause overheating...:nenau

The little bits that are getting very slightly damaged are just heat sinks

I always use Evotech rad gaurds on my bikes and never had issues with overheating. I was recently riding in 38c heat with no problems.

But Engineer says we're not allowed to fit radiator protection!

I just say take care, BMW might invalidate your warranty if you fit any non-approved accessories.

P.S that ain't damage, just look at you average sports bike radiator, you have just a few slight bends in the soft fins, tweak them back (carefully) with a small flat blunt instrument if it bothers you.

The new 2017 GS Rallye comes with radiator guards as standard.

So I doubt theres any overheating issues using them.

Fit rad guards, it will prevent damage and you won't have to keep straightening the fins with a flat blunt instrument. I've had 4 GS LC and not had any probs with heat. Most are designed to flow air correctly but deflect stones etc look at them air can easily pass to where it is needed I for one have them fitted, should I be worried I've damaged my bike in the last 18'000 miles, No thought not.

Anyone who says they are a possible over heating issue are talking out of their ass. If you want rad protection fit it, if you don't then don't simple.

No, that's to stop small birds (up to starling-size or perhaps hoopoe, depending on usual machine operating location) getting sucked into your engine. Unless the radiators have been relocated...

 ... Zoom into the radiators behind the forks and your'll see the radiator guards

The radiators on XRs are very exposed and in standard form nothing to stop anything flying up from the front wheel straight into them. I can't understand why BMW don't fit something to prevent damage, it seems bonkers that owners need to finish the bike off.

I got some from Nippy Normans as the radiators looked ridiculously exposed to me on the LC.
I think they are Cymarc? Spelling ?
No overheating issues at all over 12000 miles and a week or two in 35C ambient daytime temperatures in Spain.
I would recommend fitting for peace of mind and protection against rocks.
