Unbelievable

Engineer, rad guards have been fitted to water cooled bikes for years, I don't ever remember there being a case of damage caused by them....ever.

The worst result of rad guards would be the fan coming on a bit more regularly to regulate the heat, but the nett effect of rad guards is 2/5ths of feck all, but less chance of being stranded with a holed rad.

Indeed .... didn't we have a similar whining session from the same tossers when the GS went liquid cooled?

My GSA runs at the same temperature (according to the guage) with or without the R&G radiator guards fitted

And it's got a chain, this bike is doomed lol
PS pick mine up in the morning, ride home and fit some bits and pieces, oh including the rad and oil cooler guards then go out and get some miles on it, and then re-lube the chain what a chor

Ask him to get you a BMW one

I asked why BM hadn't done one.

Talking to the DP of one of my local BMW garages, he confirmed that they have never had one overheated bike, as a result of a radiator guard being fitted. And they are more than happy to fit guards to their customers bikes.

I also wonder why BMW don't, as they've made no difference to the engine temperature. Maybe in a hotter country they might, although I never had any issues on the GS in Italy at temperatures in the late 30's.

Yamaha make and sell guards for the new Tracer, as my mate has fitted them to his, so they obviously aren't worried.

You were riding in Italy in the late 30s!!!!!!! how old are you?

It does seem odd that BMW don't offer them as an accessory as the bike clearly needs them - they could sell them at their normal huge inflated price and make a killing.

They could do lots of things, like fuel the GS properly but they don't so we go to Hilltop

It will be interesting to see how hot these bikes do actually get , The RR I had got very feckin hot at times , particularly the frame , it never had any issues from it however I did have to get off it a few times so as not to cook my nuts

Cheers Nutty and the rim decals were easy just like you said, I think they set the bike off as they were a bit bland before, makes them look more part of the bike.

Couldn't be easier remove the lower cowl just press in the plastic lugs inside the plastic fixings and keep them for refitting remove the side cowl bolts just to make it easier to slide in the guards they then just zip tie in place simples.

But not as good as the Evotech ones.

Plus, with the Evotech ones, no zip ties, and you're supporting a UK based business. I've had several chats with the MD of Evotech, who will go out of his way to keep his customers happy, and won't hide behind his staff.
