Radiator Guards.

What are your thoughts on radiator guards when a bike isn’t used offroad?

An essential to protect a vulnerable part of the bike or unnecessary bling?

Anyone ever had a radiator punctured by a stone?

For the position of these radiators, i'd say a worth while investment. A small outlay (£70 ish) is far cheaper than a new radiator/a repair (plus the inconvenience of getting recovered back home)

I've literally just ordered some (only just got the Bike) in Black so they don't stand out.

you may not go off road,but at some point you will be following a car ,i once had a windscreen put out by a stone of the car in front.
if it cost that bothers you buy the cheapos from china ,anything better than nowt

I having been riding water cooled GS's since 2013 averaging 10,000/year on road - never punctured a radiator. I will probably get one tomorrow on the way to work now that I've said that

I ride off road a lot but got my radiator punctured on a road ride with my mates, bike in front threw a stone up and that was that. Had guards on ever since.

Strange that the Rallye GSes come with them as standard, but the others don't

Expensive if it happens ,just get genuine BMW guards reasonable price easy to fit and look good .

For the relatively small cost, they are peace of mind.

The BMW plastic ones are cheap, lightweight and easily fitted. Seemed like a no-brainer to me.

I just bought a pair so that’s something else to fit on.

Some ride for years and never have an issue but a mate of mine had to be recovered to the dealer because a stone holed on of his rads on the road in Wales so you pays your money. Bit like x heads or engine bars, if you never had to rely on them for protection you might wonder why you bought them, but if you did then you'd think they were worth every penny
