It is with great regret........................no thats not the way to start.:blast......anyway having just sold my 1200 GS (a good bike with no faults in 13k, thankfully it will stay like that cos I`ve sold it to a friend )
I`ve decided to treat myself to a GT 1200 SE ( if only cos it gives me a reason not to go on the forest trails sorry G.C ). I`ve enjoyed the friendship and banter on the days oout, and no doubt the ribbing can only get worse now ! So long as you still speak / wave hope to get out once the weather is more kind :D
Here`s to two more warranty covered years !

Shinyface ;)

Enjoy the new bike, aint no other feeing like a new bike. :thumb2
See you in the spring.
Don’t thing the fairing would suffer too much damage on the Loch side. :augie

Oooohhhh!................... Thought you were going for the RT :nenau

The GT 1200 SE should be a bit.................... rapid

(watch out for the unmarked cars when you're nipping along on that thing :augie)

What colour? When ya getting it? Who ya getting it from? Did you get any cleaning products free with it?

Of course we'll continue to wave to you.......................................:upyou

new toy !

Well then Al
I decided on the GT cos some other little bugger I know got a R1.........and as I`m just too old to be bent double whilst enjoying mi self ( in the nicest possible way you understand :D). Anyway it`s a good old mans tourer or so the blurb has you belive, and as I don`t go over 65 that should be fine !:bounce1
It comes in Dec ! in a crystal grey metalic from Clarks of Dundee but bugger me their was no cleaning clothes provided but a bloody big van to deliver it !
Santa has been very kind this year.:thumb2
GC thanks for the reply and as long I`m invited I`ll be along on the next run cos no doubt Santa will still be about in the future and by then GS`s will be made leak proof !

Shinyface ;)

While I don't want to steal Shinyface's thunder.............. :nono

Alan (Arcboutant) has also bought himself a new bike............... :blast

(and it will go just as quick as Frank's .......... if he peddles like fek :blast)

well shinyface.

enjoy it. I was going to go down the flyingbrick K1200rs/gt route . Have a very soft spot for that engine, it's wizard.
The 'new. K12gt and even R12rt are just too tall for pins. I also found there was too much buffeting from the fairing on the 'rt'.

See you on the road :thumb

The 'new' GT is a great bike - I borrowed John Clark's for a day when my "Superbrick" GT was in for a service.

To my mind it has a better riding position than the older model (which is a slightly-modified K1200RS) and I found it very comfortable during the 265 miles I did on it.

It is also lighter, more powerful and faster than the old GT - I was overtaking handfuls of cars at a time on the run to Glen Coe. So be very careful.

The 24 litre fuel tank is more practical than the 20.5 litre tank on the older model.

And both panniers are the same size, unlike the older model. You won't keep your spare gloves warm in winter in the nearside pannier though.

It handles very well too.

Downside ? I prefer the older engine, the new one is very revvy and 'on the throttle' all the time which makes it a bit snatchy (even with the modified chip download installed). Small niggle though.

Oh yes . . The new GT has lost the lovely airbox 'howl' I get from mine when accelerating hard . . It brings out the hooligan in you !

Altogether an excellent choice - I hope you enjoy it.

(I'm still wondering whether I should trade my '03 model in for one . . .There's a nice used SE in Motorrad Central East (or was the other day). 16,000 miles and a touch under £10,000. wrong colour though - its the blue one).

Lets see some photos when you get it.

Bob.

choice !

Thanks Alan / Bob,
Looking forward to it already and as Black Al said he`s got plenty of time to keep it clean for me I might even use it in the rain...........
Bob, the GT is still in Dalkieth ........well at least it was on Thursday when I called in on the way past. ( the slight scuff on the offside pannier belongs to Bev........ ) If you buy it I`ll polish it off !!

See you on the road when the weather looks promising and the` lochy` needs some business !

 I don't remember saying that :nono.................

You wouldn't let anyone else near it unless they were blonde nymphets, using pure wool mitts from organic Angora goats, in a clockwise sweeping motion, using asses' milk - freshly milked by nubile geishas on a Sunday..................... :blast

(even then - you'd insist on supervising......... although that might have something to do with the nymphets :augie)

Anyway................ what tyres are you getting it with?

I'd recommend the Michelin Pilot Road 2 ones :thumb2

but Bob...

'The 24 litre fuel tank is more practical than the 20.5 litre tank on the older model.'

what are the differences if any in fuel consumption. I remember the 16 valve 1000cc bricks being quite frugal.:thumb2

Difficult one, that.

On motorway trips I get around 42 / 43 MPG (c. 9 miles per litre) on the '03 model. It used to be better than that prior to the last service.

On quiet back roads (BMW club runs) I have had 54 MPG.

I seem to recall that the '06 GT was better, but that was in April in good weather on quiet 'A' roads (plus a bit of the A9) so may not be representative.

On good 'A' roads, all my BMWs seem to do 10 miles per litre.

On the '03 GT, the low fuel light comes on at around 160 miles and I have squeezed 200 by being cautious once the light was on (and I had just passed a Service Station on the A74(M)).
