I need to replace a cracked air box on an 1150...

Haynes manual says to remove the rear frame, but I think it might be possible to get the air box out by just pivoting the rear frame saving the hassle of removing it completely. :nenau

What do the experts think?

It's a bad crack with a piece missing so no chance of a repair in situ.

you are right you can just pivot the frame up,i've got an 1100 in my garage now with the frame pivoted up,i see you are only in newark, you can come and have a look if it's any help,i'm in lincoln,pm me.

Thanks for that... pm sent!

Yup, you can just pivot the rear frame out of the way. I've done the same thing with my 1150 right now. It's fairly easy to do if you're careful.

Thanks for the replies, and Kompost for letting me look at his 1100 :beerjug: Will be a lot easier than removing the whole rear sub-frame... :thumb2

Seems like you have it sorted but I thought I would chip in with some advice for others if they are looking.

I too have an 1150GS and removed the airbox some time ago.

Yes you can just pivot the reasr frame up and forward but at the front there are two bolts close together and unless you undo two of them (one on each side, it wont move!)

Also, I did it with my bike on teh center stand, not sure if it would make any difference but I did have a problem aligning the bolts frame when I lowered it back down. only a few mm but enoguth to cause some frustration.

I think it stemmed from the weight moving forward and the forward frame moving a little as well.

I dont know what I could have done to make it not happen.

so just some adivce to be aware of that may make it easier for some one

cheers
