Was wondering if anyone was having problems with the Rallye-2 Jacket? I bought the jacket and trousers. I hung the jacket up on the loop at the top, as per all jackets, and the loop snapped with the weight of the jacket.

The dealer exchanged the jacket, hung the new one up on Sat, and by Monday the jacket was on the floor! Doh!

It seems that the rope used for the loop is not strong enough for the jacket. The remainder of the loop came off in my hands, and I was able to snap it like a thread of cotton.

The dealer says I am the first person to have had this problem, which I find hard to believe.

Quite incredible for a £400 jacket ! Other than this, its a gr8 suit.

Anyone else had issues?

No probs with the loop, use a coat hanger!

Just got mine exchanged cos i got a soaking a couple of weeks ago.. seemed to come in somewhere around the zip area. BWM said its the first one they've ever had leak, and gave me a new jacket. Its still hanging (on a hanger) in the garage with the labels attached.

My observation of the Rally 2.. excellent jacket, well made but not the warmest bit of kit in the world.

Pants aren't the warmest either I get cold above the knees but at least they fit me

Excellent jacket but have always hung it up using a coat hanger and a strong one at that. I never liked the looks of the little hook that has been mentioned above. Some of the stitching around the numerous Velcro bits have been renewed (by me!) and the rivets on the zip puller came adrift (replaced by local dealer for free). Other than that, great. I do feel that it needs an instructions book to explain all the zips and openings though (so many) and a special warning message mentioning that the Velcro bits will rip your whitlows to bits (the bits of skin around your nails) :)

Rallye-2 Jacket: Warmth

To be fair to "warmth" element of the jacket and trousers, it is not sold as a winter suit....it's sold on it's warm weather capabilities, and this is quite clear in the brochure. Check it out if you don't believe...

However, it's very good in the cold because of the wind and waterproofing. Complement this with some thin and cost effective (i.e. not BMW) thermals, and it really is toasty...

Probably what should have been pointed out is the little loop isn't designed to hold the weight of the jacket, it's purpose is to hold the tab for the goretex liner at the nape of the neck in place. Easy mistake to make though, as my Savanna jacket complete with broken loop will testify ....

Rallye 2 Jacket

Well these things shouldn't be pointed out....they should come with a printed manual !

Fair point - the Rallye II is a veritable activity centre of a jacket and something to introduce it's range of features would be quite handy - unfortunately the only item currently in the range to come with anything other than the care instructions is the helmets which have a 'how to' book included.

I'll try and find something more substantial than the washing instructions on the dealer system and email you anything I can find if that helps :) .

And it really is quite silly of anyone to manufacture a jacket with wht purports to be a hanging loop, and doesnt hold the weight of the jacket. Granted, the jacket is heavy, but, paracord will hold a mans weight, and more, and its thinner than the excuse for a rope in the Rallye2 jacket, which snaps like a thread of cotton !

Doesnt really bode well for the longevity of the jacket, consdering that multiple putting on and taking off will stress the joins between the goretex liner and the outer.

A very poor example to don the BMW brand...

You are a very lucky man. Seriously, if this is the main worry of your life and worth post it on this forum........

I use the Rallye II for what it is designed for, rallying. So far didn't find anything better and versatile.

rallye-2

What ever you use it for, it still costs a lot of money. And being able to hang it up is important....without the damned thing falling apart. Besides....the whole purpose of this forum is to share expereiences of product. Think you need to take a step back....

I'd suggest it isn't good to hang ANY heavy jacket up from a single point like this...especially one with high-tec layers and coatings etc.

All you'll do is stretch seams and the shape of the cut panels, and make the whole thing out of shape too.

Oh yeah, and break the little cord ;)

Far better to hang anything like that up on a hanger like Bryn said.

Oh gawd yes......absolutely, that'd cure the problem

Why yes, every time I've bought a new jacket, I've rushed home and read the little manual about how to lok after it!

 ;)

rallye-2

What manual? That silly excuse of a manual that is nothing more than multi-lingual washing instructions?

Think what ever you want. Notify me if you find anything better. So far I know only tailor made stuff and that is really €xpensive.

Don't know how the quality of their little cord is.

Even the little cord of my Italian Cornegliani suit broke recently (talking about expensive shit) . The spaghetti eaters didn't mention anything in the users manual :nenau

Just wanna make sure this thread ends up in the top 10 useless threads of 2005.
