Lots of Qs from me this last week or two. Apols; new to this GS lark.
I ride all year round, and use the bike as my main vehicle, so I tend to have good kit.
Right now running Rukka jacket and trousers, both bought v cheaply, including in Germany. They're great, but neither has any venting and they're already beginning to get too warm, oven sans inners. I was thinking of investing in something for summer but may now be being offered first dibs on a used Rallye 2 Pro suit. It's five years old, been worn a lot but also well cared for. No tears, rips or anything, just a bit battered.
Tempted to flog the Rukka kit on and take this - the Rukka stuff is outstanding for cold/wet weather, but the R2P ought to do me for everything, all year round, no?
Only concern is the BMW stuff, unlike the Rukka, soaks up the water on the outer layer and then doesn't let it any further, right? Had one jacket in the past of that style and in heavy rain it was FREEZING because you had the cold, sodden material pressing down on you.
Rukka just doesn't let the stufff in in the first place.
So, my two Qs chaps:
1. How good is the R2P stuff in the winter?
2. What's this suit worth do you think?
Forgive the cross-examination, but as I was once told, the stupidest question is the one you don't ask.

In my experience the Rukka stuff is far better in winter. Apart from soaking up the water the Pro has poor thermal properties and does not keep me as warm as I thought it would. In summer its quite good as the liner etc. comes out and there are lots of vents. There are a lot of other summer suits out there so I'd pop into Hein Gericke or similar and try a few on. The Pro is okay for summer and light showers but it does get very heavy when soaked and is not warm enough in the winter for me.

I didn't rate my R2P kit for winter use as the zips let the cold air through even when closed and the outer absorbs water making it heavy and cold.

Dunno about what price you should be paying for the kit you mention as it seems too old to be R2P but normally the jackets go for around £200-£250 and trousers £100-£150 secondhand depending on condition.

@ Big Nick

Cheers - that's exactly the kind of advice I wanted to hear. Oddly - the very best winter kit I have EVER owned was by "Bikers" - their Suzuka jacket and trousers. Absolutely brilliant. Sadly mine's now expired with age and my beer gut and can't afford to replace like with like (was a freebie from a bike journo mate)

It's rubbish quality.......................don't bother:blast

Mine has velco and stitching coming adrift everywhere and when it rains it leaks through the outer like a sieve and then it runs down the inside of the arms, into yer gloves

Great for posing around the Ace Cafe, Tesco's or in Chelsea..........shite on a wet, cold M1 in January

Makes a reasonable trailriding suit, where your increased body heat from the exertion equals out the lack of inherent R2P suit warmth

@ Hops and JohnnyBoxer

More evidence of same - much appreciated. I'll stick with Rukka and seek out something for summer.

I've got one of these, bought from someone here I think. Nice piece of kit and just the job on a hot day.

Hmm. Update. This is a Rallye 2 Pro suit, confirmed, good nick. Five years old I think. Reckon I can get it for £300 (certainly won't pay more). On that basis I may well do it as a two/three season solution and keep the Rukka gear for the heavy weather on the basis that I can't find anything (jacket and trousers) for the same money which will tick the boxes. Went to HG and basically it's either v expensive all-year-round gear (which I don't need with the Rukka kit or v light high summer gear which is fine so long as it's 80 degrees.
