hi another strange question from me. is there any trick in washing a rallye 2 suit or can i just bung all into the washing machine. any tips before i destroy it also whats the story on washing lining. i know someone will say look at the label but i never did before and the writing is worn away.
thanks in advance

I have not yet washed the lining but with the jacket and trousers. I put in the in the washing machine with Nikwax techwash, then wash it again in the machine with the waterproofing stuff.

All available from your local millets.

Another vote for the Nikwax stuff.:thumb2

Make sure you clean the powder delivery area in the machine thoroughly otherwise you'll contaminate the Nikwax detergent and ruin the suit.

The second wash with the re-proofing stuff is also key as otherwise your suit will weigh a ton every time it rains as the outer shell will soak up water like a sponge :blast

First wash: Nikwax Tech Wash (Green top)

Second wash: Nikwax TX.Direct Wash-In (Purple top)

You can often get a deal if you buy both together :thumb2

Use the exact same stuff as has been mentioned and it works perfectly.

As Mutley says you can get a deal on buying the wash and proffing stuff packed together.

I got mine from the local Hein Gerricke. :thumb

any one know the name of the waterproofing stuff

Nikwax TX Direct Wash-In or Spray on and wash with Nikwax Tech Wash. This is what I wash and re-proof my technical hillwalking clothing with. I think that you'll find Nikwax products easy to find at any outdoor shop. Or you can source the cheapest online at www.buachaille.com This site is also VERY good for sourcing the cheapest deals on camping equipment etc etc :rob

The Spray on is much harder to get right! Buy the wash-in and you can't get it wrong.

Is it possible to was the coat first with normal detergent to get the dirt off?

Would it need a second run through the washing machine with no detergent to ensure it is rinsed thoroughly?

I have not washed my coat in since I bought it (Dec 05) and it is in real need of some TLC. I love the coat so much I have been scared to wash it in case I ruined it.

Also, what can be done with the inner Gortex liner?

Do not wash in normal detergent under any circumstances :nono

My jacket was filthy after Morocco and it came up fine with the Nikwax detergent :thumb2

No idea on the goretex liner :nenau if it really smells hand wash it in warm water only and air it out on the line now it's nice weather :thumb2

It is also worth running your washing machine without any powder or clothes in to get rid of any remaining detergent, as it is this that bungs up the pores on the GoreTex fabric. Then, as the others have said, the Nicwax Tech Wash :thumb

And that's a top tip from Vern :D

David, as I understand it, the jacket isn't goretex, only the liner.. I've also heard that standard non bio doesn't do the breathable stuff any harm...

I've been washing my Berghaus Choktoi windstopper fleece in fairy non bio.:mmmm

Maybe I've been listening to the salesmen trying to flog me expensive detergent for too long :D .

You're right though, if the jacket isn't made from any type of "breathable" material then normal soap powders are fine.

Top up with oil and forgot to replace the plastic cap . Started up the engine and got covered in oil .:blast
Used Fairy and than the Nikwax products , came up as new ( I had the Rally 2 in grey ).
Gortex can be washed with Nikwax Gortex Wash . With time the pores in the Gortex fabric get blocked (dirt ,perspiration, etc ) and the fabric does not work as it should .
