Rallye - I'll be picking mine up this weekend, or I will be if I can get bloody insurance for it!

You go to get a quote on-line and they list every model of BMW except the R1200GS Adventure Rallye TE. So you have to get a quote for the R1200GS Adventure TE, then ring your chosen insurer to explain that although it's a TE it's actually a Rallye TE, there is no difference between it and the TE other than a bit of Blue paint. At that point they either say they can't quote as it's not in the list, or they do quote and hike the bloody price up.

Spoke to the dealer, they say they've been telling their customers to just say it's a Adventure TE, however, if you do this and don't let the insurer know it's an Adventure Rallye TE, then get involved in an accident, the insurer could refuse to cover you.
Why on earth did BMW have to add 'Rallye' to the name when all it is doing is specifying the colour?
Or why can't they pull their finger out and get the bike listed on the database for insurers?

After spending all day yesterday on the phone to insurers, I wish I'd gone for the Red Adventure TE now!

I want to email someone high up in BMW UK about this fiasco, has anyone got a direct email address for the head honcho?

Trebor tell me about it !!
The cheapest quote via the comparison sites came back with Hastings being the cheapest, like you I had the same issue only when I rang I was being kept on hold 45 min to an hour only then to be told they will have to pass me on to another advisor because they did not have the correct software to process the quote because it done online.

So having waited for an hour placed on hold again for another 45 mins only to be cut off. What a shower of shit !!!

Anyway this happened a couple of times, in the end did manage to speaker to someone and like you price went up so no diffference to the other cheaper quotes. Made a complaint on line about the hassle I had and they sent me a cheque for £35 for the inconvenience caused.
I am not going to go with Hastings dread to think what might happen should I need to claim. At least I got £35 towards insurance for the bike all I need now is the registration number. MCE I think.

I was on to Hastings for quite a while, but to be fair they were very helpful and did the best they could.
In the end I went with IAM Surety (Cornhill). They sorted out the issues with the bike designation and I got a deal as good, if not better than Hastings, though with an higher excess than I would like at £500. The only thing I don't like about IAM Surety's insurance is the garaging policy, if you state the bike is kept at your home, in a garage, whenever you are at home (or a mile radius of your home) the bike must be in the garage. So no more washing it and leaving it to dry, or rocking up home for lunch and leaving it out.

Anything to get out of paying out. It wasn't between certain times of the day was it ?

And was the premium much different if you didn't state it was kept in a garage? Sometimes these things impose restrictions for very little difference in the price. I don't declare my house alarm on my home policy for example as that would impose an annual service and a requirement never to forget to set it for virtually no reduction in premium.

I don't know, I didn't ask on this occasion. Though I did a few years ago and from what I can remember there was quite a hike in premium costs so never bothered asking again. Perhaps I should in future.

Oh yes, in the post above it should say a half mile of your home/garage, and according to the adviser this is by road, not radius/"as the crow flies".
