Spending the money about £1k is one thing, the other is getting the right technology and materials for protection and waterproofing...

Anyone out there who has had both and can tell us what their experience has been and advice?

Heat / Wind / Cold / Water
Protection Material (Kevlar, Carbon, ...)
Summer / Winter use (versatility...)

Thanks all...

New to the GS world.... My first big bike (1150 GSA) in fact! So far this the first Forum I have Joined and meeting Steptoe tomorrow already! :aidan

I have both a rallye 3 suit and a ruka armax.

The rallye is a fantastic suit with great body armour, best back protector i have seen in a jacket and also has room for the water bladder in the back. It is wrm in winter and great with all the vents for the summer, pluss it aso turns into a waist coat. The down side is that the gortex layer is zip in and on the inside, it is water proof but when it gets wet the gortex is against the skin and gets a touch cold with the windblast. its fine if you wear a base layer underneath it.

The rukka is also a brilliant suit, totaly waterproof and keeps you warm in winter even in just a tshirt and base layer underneath. The downside with this suit is its crap for trips abroad in the sun as there is hardly any vents and it toasts you.

I find the rallye 3 the best suit, and have a set of light waterproofs i wear over the top if its pissing down, that way it keeps the wet out and the heat in, but the decision is yours.
Hope that helps:beerjug: and enjoy

Can of worms question I'm afraid:D

I have both and wear the Rukka in the winter and the Rallye 3 in the summer, usually without the lining and carrying a l/w waterproof top.

If you only ride for 3 seasons and tour abroad (sunny south) then I'd go for the Rallye and a throw over waterproof, this will cover you from very wet to very hot!

UK all year round, it's got to be the Rukka and some cheap mesh gear for the odd hot day

A compromise would be some of the Klim stuff, goretex shell with good venting at the same price point you're looking at

A can of worms indeed!!! :blast
Its not just me going mad here.....

Maybe its good to have the Rallye3 for allround and globe trotting
If my addiction continues throughout winter and I wanna madly be out there in the freezing rain and cold on the bike, i may have to push for a Rukka by the sounds of things...

And its all part of the learning process and becoming a GSER !!!:jibber With the help and advice from those ahead....

Thanks

Armour Material

Whats the best armour out there....

Surprised there is no kevlar or carbon shells.... instinct told me thats what the best would be for the purpose... :blast

The Rallye3 has a special foam gel type protective and removable inserts.

Can they be upgraded....

Anyone know more on this...?

:rob

I wear Forcefield armour under my Rukka suit, unless I'm wearing a heated vest, then use the Rukka backplate.

Is theRallye 3 the new suit that's coming out next year? I thought the new one was meant to have a waterproof outer shell?

Had my Armas suit for a couple of years, simply the best riding suit I've owned in nearly 30 years of riding. Through the winter, there's nothing out there to beat it, particularly with a good heated jacket underneath. The proshell outer is a godsend in the rain etc. I use mine all summer too and yes, it can get a bit warm but I find that's really only in town or when stopped, once underway I find it fine.

Buy from bikerland in germany and get it a lot cheaper than here in the UK.

I too have the rallye 3 and as mentioned it does leak even with the inner wet liners, it runs down the inside and fills the sleeves with water, obviously v,cold.
I have found an Aerostitch roadcrafter suit best in most conditions, although hot sun in Europe and you will wish you had the Rallye suit on.
Every thing is a compromise I guess. :beerjug:

Seems if you've got one, you get the other!!

I've a BMW Rallye 2 but have just bought a Rukka ArmarS.

The BMW is great in hot climes - amazingly heavy to carry but all that weight disappears once on. The problem is the goretex is inside so the outside gets very heavy and water drips down into your gloves - which are waterproof. So signing in to a pub B&B in the lakes I took off my glove and poored water over their guest book! The outer will then take ages to dry out.

The pockets are not waterproof either, so my ipod was drowned.

So you really need an all over waterproof when it is anything more than drizzle.
For European touring I prefer textile so I can fit and forget even if it rains - can't be arsed stopping under bridges etc.

The ArmorS trousers are amazing - very confortable for 400 milers without airhawk and surprisingly cool even in 36'c in Rome traffic. They have some fancy reflective coating which certainly works.
I've yet to try the jacket in heat.

Aerostich Darien jacket is also good hot and cold and with a heated aerostich fleece is toasty warm.

So for an African trip it was BMW, for Europe Rukka and if I want the hi-viz white motorcycle look for a trip up the M4 it is the darien.

pays yer money and...................
