I want to fit a descrete RAM mount on my 2008 GSA. I think the most descrete I've seen are these...

9mm hole

11mm hole

I've measured the mirror thread and it seems to be 10mm can anyone confirm this? The 9mm is ideal but as mentioned I don't think it will fit? If anyone has fitted any of these or know if they do or don't fit then please let me know.

There's always this popular one if all else fails!

It all really depends ...

... on what bit of kit you want to attach to it, GPS/Camera/Drinks holder/Aquabox etc. Some will obscure your clocks and some won't, so a little more info required

Take the 9mm out to 10mm, perhaps?

I have no idea of the size of the stem thread, or if it's possible to do as suggested above.

Contact Ram-man, he makes a living out of the stuff.

How was Sunday?

Have a butchers here

if you really want discreet try http://www.telferizer.com/prods.html#bmw

I think the bike to first ball is about £25-£30 not cheap but discrete, he uses the headstock tube to hold the ball i think. Not connected, haven't used, don't know him so buyer beware. but good reports from vfr owners forum.

I have fitted the 9mm RAM Mount to the RHS mirror on my 1200GS. It needed taking out to 10mm if my memory serves me correctly (a job that only takes seconds to do), but then fits a treat and is nice and tidy (tidier than the 11mm mount). HTH...

There you have it. Confirmation, from way down under, that the simple idea of taking 9mm out to 10mm may well work.

Show us some pic's of the process and the final discrete package in all its glory, please.

I use the one in the third pic with the u bolt which Ive got on the handlebar tube itself. I been using a Garmin Streetpilot III which is pretty good but havnt stretched it too far. (work and back :augie) get quite a lot of adjustabilty but i still seem to just have to look over the top to see how much fuel I havnt got.

Sorry should have said mines an 03 GSA which seems to have less options for mounts compared to the 1200

Although I prefer a fixed secure case for my iPod RAM mounted on my bike at the moment I decided to go for a sugestion "The Bede" made on this website. Get a camera bag, velcro it to the bike with iPod in it. I was put off by hearing that some had iPod problems when using bike mounts and I don't want to buy an iPod nano. Camera bag cost me £3.87 at Tesco today:thumb2 .

And also took "Haggisblower" & "Wappings" advise and bough Airclick (hard to come by now). It didn't work at first - duff battery! Works now though after battery change! I now have two remotes Airclick and Sport Command. Airclick for general dry use (better positive buttons) and sport command for when it rains!

Or... ditch the ipod altogether and whack all your tunes on the sat nav... (you need a zumo first) :D

Yes I did consider that option before I bought the Nav3. And in some ways the Zumo is better but I have all my songs on my iPod, can't do that with Zumo memory card with 4Gb limit vs 80Gb iPod! Anyway there would bound to be a time I would forget to copy a song or album to the Zumo :blast

Anyway I'm just pleased I've found a cheap solution as I usually go for the more expensive toys instead! :JB

Thats true enough. My playlist is a lot smaller and so I have to be selective about what I put on there. That said I don't have an ipod with more than 8gb memory anyway so most of it lives on the computer.

When I posted this thread I wanted a hard case and mount for my iPod. After researching this found that some iPods die or skip and turn off etc because of the vibration. Since then I have opted for a soft camera case with iPod in it tucked next to the Rev counter on the GSA and that seems to work well for £2.87! But now I have my iPhone bluetooth connected to NAV3 and Autocom but when calls come through I don't see who's calling me so I am now considering a mount for my iPhone.

Aquabox is large and ugly but there's enough space for iPod or iPhone or iPhone 3G. Otterbox is my preferred box but it's item specific and some parts are hard to get hold of.
