I went down today to fit my ram mount to the new bike, planning to put it onto the GPS mount, but it turns out that it's too thin a bar for the mount to grip. I've made do for now with a bodge (gaffer tape wrapped around the mount until it's thick enough), but does anyone else have a better solution for installing une up by the screen?

I use it for GPS sometimes, or my phone or camera, and so don't really want to move it down to on the handlebars, if it can be helped.

Thanks.

Thanks, but I've already got one; the new bar's even thinner than the old, and this still doesn't grip it.

Yes, that does look quite neat. Did you make that yourself, or can you point me in the direction of somewhere selling them?

Solved the problem

You don't actually need the RAM shim.

The jaws that wrap around the RAM ball joints close tight enough that they will bite onto the GPS mounting bar. I wrapped some magic silicon (aka rescue) tape around itself on the GPS bar about 30 times, which gave a shape close enough to a RAM ball joint. The silicon tape might not be necessary but it certainly helped achieving a stable grip.

Once the silicon tape was on the GPS bar I clamped the jaws on to that, adjusted everything and now have an excellent GPS mount.

It vibrates slightly at idle, which is really the bike's fault, but once under way it's fine.
