Hallo, I'm hoping for some advice before I go whining to gpsw.

I bought one of these boxes and am very happy with it, save one thing.

The screen looks like it hasn't formed correctly (I can't get the screen to sit straight). It's a little annoying in some conditions as the light refracts on the PDA screen. It sort of has bubbles. I thought about sticking it in the oven and flattening it but I'm unsure how it will turn out :blast

Is this a generic quality issue or should I complain for a new one?

nearly all makes of boxes do that if it's what i'm thinking is wrong... you can hit it lucky sometimes and no bubbles/airpockets form

post a pic

It would be useful to know which model of AquaBox you have .. eg RAM-HOL-AQ? (where ? = 1 , 2 , 3 or 6)

I am unaware of any flaws in the lens moulds, so would be interested if you have been unlucky.

As to fitting the lens (feels like a rubbery membrane) and has two or three ingates in the mould and is part of the manufacturing process. Fitting the lens is quite easy, but there's a pdf instruction telling you how to fit and inlay the lens around the case rim .. so if you need a copy, then email or pm with your email address. There's also a similar pdf for cable access routing as well.

I would not suggest warming it up in the oven or nuking it in the microwave.

Hi RAM-MAN, it's the RAM-HOL-AQ2. My screen looks nothing like the one in the picture. :D

I'm aware of the three dots and can live with that. I'll get a picture so you can see what I mean. Is there a URL to the fitting instruction? I can't see how I could get it wrong though seems a logical step.

Picture coming up...

If it were mine - I'd send it back! I've recently just posted a question about what equipment to use for my ipod and I thought this was probably one of the best for my iPod / iPhone. I have second thoughts now looking at yours.

I saw one on a guys GSA last weekend and his must have been the next size up. I had a close look at it and didn't notice that his screen was like yours?

I would send it back as faulty and have a replacment, if that one was no better I would get a refund! But then thats just me - mr fussy :aidan

Don't be put off, the design is superb IMHO. I've probably just got a dodgy screen. I'll wait for RAM-man to get back to me.

Definitely a manufacturing problem....you should be able to get a relacement screen for it to save sending the whole lot back. Use an Otterbox on mine and it works fine...doesn't affect the touch screen sensitivity a all.

AquaBox

The dots in the centreline are the ingate marks I mentioned earlier and the raised seam or rib line does appear and occurs in the moulding process. Fitting the lens, stretching or smoothing it out around the case rim can alleviate this.

A new lens RAM-HOL-AQ2L along the fitting instructions for the AquaBox series will be sent today which say..

Wash your hands prior to installing the lens. This will insure that no oils are passed onto the lens or that debris does not interfere with proper seal.

Push the lens from inside the cover toward the outside. While keeping pressure on the lens inside the frame, gently role the lens over the outer lip of the cover.

Once the lens has fully engaged the raised lip of the Aqua Box cover, inspect seal for proper seat. Now, look at the inside of the cover and complete the installation by seating the lens inside the provided groove.

Lens should seat snuggly with no visible air pockets or wrinkles once in place.

Three foam pads are included with the kit. Stack or choose a single pad to best accommodate your device.

Should you need to route power or data cables into the box, punch out the center plug at the
bottom of the box. This area is stamped for your reference.

No lock is supplied with this holder although it is designed to allow for the use of one. Four screws andfour nuts facilitate the attachment of a RAM ball base with the AMPS hole pattern. Specifically, the RAM-B-202 or RAM-202

Thanks for your timely response; I had an email from gpsw as well but presume they've been in touch.

From your instructions it looks like i'd fitted it correctly so mine must be a duff. Cheers,

A.

HI

You have probably sorted it but looking at the pics it is not fitted correctly you need to roll the rubber screen over the ledge on the outer part of the box. It will fit tightly as in effect you are stretching it over the little raised ridge which runs round the outside of the box.

The best way to doi this is to push up on the screen from the inside and using your thumb or finger (of the other hand) on the edge of the screen drag it to the outside edge of the box ,this will drag the outer beveled edge of the screen over the plastic ridge which is clearly visible in the picture above do this all the way around and it will fit properly and be tight.
