2022 R1250GS Triple Black with 12k km on it. I've owned it since the end of October and thought that this would be my ideal bike. Ho ho ho. Last November it spent a few weeks at the dealer with an ignition fault (coil pack, dealer was useless in diagnosing).

Today, it nearly killed me. I was bimbling along at 80kph when the back wheel suddenly locked, only my years of riding experience saved me. I pulled the clutch on but it made no difference. Scanned it with MotoScan and got "rear wheel speed sensor 480913" and "undertension 480860" fault codes. The TFT also said "ABS system fault". I opened the bleed ripple on the caliper to get rid of any pressure and gingerly made my way home. I am deeply disappointed. My last bike was a Harley (I know) but it never let me down. I'm pondering whether to stick the the GS or get shut, I really don't need the hassle.

Ouch! That is not normal! I’ve had a rear wheel lock on my first GS but that was out of fuel issue and my fault.

Well done for saving it. Did you get it from a dealer? If so you’re within 6 months and so have a warranty but could potentially reject the bike for 2 major defects in the first 6 months. The GS is an awesome bike though so if you have got unlucky then getting it fixed and running it will reward you.

Like riding a two stroke with fingers covering the clutch in case the piston seizes. Old school !!!

Yes that happened to me on a RD400 when going at considerable pace- quite scary when it siezes

I locked up my Nsr 125rr at 70mph on the outside lane of the A27, one morning on the way to work,

Eek!!

How exactly did the back end lock up?

No warning, back wheel just locked. Pulled clutch in but made no difference. Got a message on the TFT saying ABS brake fault. Scary.

That sounds life threateningly dangerous!!
Imagine if you were riding like I ride mine??!! lol
I’d be shouting very loud to BMW about a new replacement bike. Otherwise calling MCN with your story and pictures of fault codes etc. 🤔

I'm going to contact the dealer today. Unfortunately, contacting MCN wouldn't help as I live in Portugal but I will be contacting ACP (Portugals equivalent to the AA) if I get no.joy from the dealer.

Had the back wheel lock up on my Hornet at 70 mph in the A13 when the gear box seized.
Lucky for me the bloke behind was paying attention.

I had an 1150GSA that used to lock the back wheel for no reason, I eventually did throw it up the road and it went back to the dealer for repair on the insurance. I explained the wheel locking issue and they said (I don’t believe it) the throttle cables were uneven putting excess fuel in one cylinder and hydraulically locking it.

Not long after I got it back the front wheel started slamming the brakes on by itself, this was on a servo model. Took it back to the dealer to sort and thereafter lost all faith in it and sold it.

I had one of those Stan Steven’s tuned and the conrods burst straight through the pistons - so the rear wheel only locked for a second. Clutch deployed too though 🤣
I had a 350LC proddy bike tuned by Stan the Man went really well
my first LC had a Terry Beckett tune and I had that nip up at 110 outside lane of the M6 overtaking a Volvo with my mate on his CB550 up my klacker, back wheel locked, bike went sideways in the same instant I whipped in the clutch.

I dont know who was more shaken up my mate, me or the old chuffer in the Volvo.

My GSXR1100 did that on the front, locked solid. Turned out to be dirty brake fluid which in turn blocked a tiny expansion hole in the master cylinder/reservoir.

Yeah, it was usually the motorways that killed 2 strokes. Sustained high engine speeds etc. Mind you I’ve known boxers to do the same if you hold them on 5-6000 revs for long time. Apparently this is the spot they run the leanest 🤔

Totally agree and it was my fault entirley, I had it jetted for the back straight at Aintree (leaner was faster ) not for riding up the M6 at a sustained 110, in my defence I was a 21 year old knobhead who knew everything
