Hi all,

I have a sod of a problem. I cant open my hepco becker panniers with my givi top box on.

Thats poo that is. I think what I need to do is either:

a: lower the panniers
b: raise the givi box
c: slash wrists

I think b will be probably the safest option, does anyone have ideas on how this might be done?....inexpensively?

Cheers

Brian

It really depends on how much you need to raise it.....??

Raising a top box from its original height is not a very good idea unless you only plan on carrying fresh air in it....they`re already a bit dodgy from the C of G point of view.

I have an 1150GSA on which I moved the top box forward due to the C.O.G. and at the same time I raised it the height of the grab rail.

The front mount was fabricated from flat bar mounted to the front pannier mounts. This was then mated to a piece of stainless steel plate to hold the top box fixing plate and give it some extra strength. The rear was bolted through the holes in the grab rail.

That all said it's now off the bike 'cos I got some panniers and the top box will be empty as its for my helmet when i'm off the bike.

Thanks

Still keen to raise it, just a little (about 4 inches) so that the side panniers can open on their hinges....otherwise I need to take the damn thing off everytime I rock up to a camping site etc....

Unless you`re 'rocking up to a camping site' every day of the week, it seems a complete waste of time and effort....with a net result of further compromising your bike`s handling....just to avoid the perfunctory task of removing your top box....... :nenau

Brian...have a read of this;
http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40760&highlight=cash+box+givi

It doesn't do anything whatsoever to the handling.......on or off road (It's just done 5k miles around Morocco and didsn't give me the slightest bother on 110mph+ motorways or bumping off road) and it gives me a lockable secure box under the topbox.

On this trip, I used it as a tool.gadget box, with two layers ofold foam sleeping mat to stop stuff rattling around inside.

And it's a cheap solution :thumb

What Famun has done is pretty much what Civil made for me for a similar problem (note that the camera angle makes it all look a bit large!)

after 10 months of dicey roads...

Just want to follow up on this post (nothing to do at work today).

I used the very very helpful suggestion of the cash box on the back of the bike for over 10 months. It worked all the way, no problems.

It's a great solution. I had to really fix it very well to the back of the bike by drilling extra holes in the box and making my own screws, but it bloody well worked a treat.

nice one fellas.
