Rattling, clunking, noisy ****ing bike!!

Mine's the same. I don't put the plugs in if I'm just popping into town and it rattles like a bag of spanners: bodywork rattles over road bumps and the gearchange clunks like a C50. It's always been like that, never got any worse, so I just ignore it.

+1. My bike is much smoother and noticeably quieter with ear plugs in:D. Never ride without em now, even on short journeys. Best performance mod for a boxer twin

The gearbox is much better when revs are matched. Blip on downshifts and a touch of clutch going up. It's a shaft so less tolerant of clumsy/slow shifting than a chain drive.
Mine rattles when plugs need renewing. It did the same when coils were failing.
Gearbox rattles in neutral & has for at least 20K miles. I pul the clutch lever to damp the noise. Clutch slave cylinder is still going strong.
It developed an annoying scraping clatter which turned out to be cracked alternator casing. New alternator fitted. Old one was seized solid within a month on the shelf.
With the Givi AF330 screen, tyre noise at 70 is worse than exhaust noise so ear plugs are a must.
Why can't helmets be more effective for stopping noise?

i bought a new hemet, an hjc rpha st. it replaced a hjc is16, the reduced noise level in the new one is great.

My least noisy (really quiet) helmet was a Cromwell full face back in the late 1970s. It had what amounted to ear defender padding around the ears and it worked. I've never see anything similar on another helmet. Even the heavy and quick to steam up Shuberth flip front was relatively breezy around the tabs.

Think you have noisey bike problems? Try riding an airhead. Then think again. You boys have it easy.
