Re engine paint on triple black gs

45mins to clean a GS! I bloody wish. I can spend hours...wipe on...wipe off. But there is a certain satisfaction to it:D.

Update

Collected bike today has had new Euro 4 engine fitted and done 300kms already with it seems smother than older engine plus gear shift pro seems smother now also
All FOC
Happy days

Missenden flyer uses muc off on his GS and it looks mint ?
So do I! no issue with muc off if not used on hot components / left on long in direct sunlight / washed off fully. works well for me, my bike is spot on though had a new engine / gearbox just after purchase second hand from a BMW dealer under warranty (previous owner). 2 years / 6k with me, still immaculate as previous BMW's / Buells

Spookily, I havent looked at this forum for a while and today noted that my 2013 triple black has paint lifting off the engine, very dissapointed.
Its way out of warranty now but this should not happen on a bike like the 1200gsa. I got rid of the K1600gtl due to a sting of defects and now even the old GSA is falling apart. BMW must pay attention, people will pay good money for decent bikes but they demand decent machines not asprin that dissolve in water.
My bike has always been looked after well and rarely is left dirty.
When I got rid of my K1600GTL it was my second one, the first needed a new engine after 1200 miles due to a major oil leak, it was changed for a new bike. This bike suffered numerous faults so after a year I went back to a GSA.
Many years ago I had a Honda CX500, this bike was thrashed constantly, it was abused continually and never went in the garage and yet the bike NEVER once let me down, it went on and on and was completely reliable. I bought that bike probably 4th hand for a few hundred quid. How is it that BWM charge 16-20K for bikes today that simply are not built properly. Clearly no one at BMW really acres any more.

Thought about changing to a new Ducati Multistrada, but looking at the owners website they appear to have their own gripes with corrosion as well. I think it is a lottery as to what bike you get and how long it lasts, no more being able to run a bike through the winter and it still looking as good as new in April, unless you spend more time cleaning it than riding it. No wonder the older boxers are commanding higher prices.

Only buy a Ducati multi if your really enthusiastic about the brand and mechanical minded, you need love it and be OCD with your cleaning because there a bike that needs this type of attention, they still have there issues and will leave you stranded, one of mine took 5 weeks to get parts for the keyless when it failed with 1 mile on the clocks, and the fasteners are like cheese, there full of character and rewarding to ride quickly.

I have had two Honda Varadero's . Great bikes but quality is not what it was, the 2010 had a poorer finish than my 2006 model it replaced. 2010 is built by Montessa !. when it was three years old the paint on the tank started bubbling at a few points. Quite bad and spreading rapidly. As bike was out of warranty Honda were not interested, despite a number of calls and letters. I had it repainted by a local specialist who said he was shocked at the poor quality of the metal the tank was made out of. He did a great job but said despite rust killer and special primer it will eventually come through again. As I sold it I noticed Rust bubbles starting to come through on the frame. I really look after my bikes and use ACF 50 and GT85 liberally but I think that most bikes these days will suffer if not OCD looked after. BMW are no worse than others and better than many. IMHO.
