Re Trip to New Zealand and Bike rental

Hi Mike
Thanks for replying and the great photo's . Sorry I have not replied sooner but I have been away .
Re the Bike Rental , I am renting from a company called " Te Waipounamu motorcycle Hire and tours Ltd"

http://www.motorcycle-hire.co.nz/index.html

It is costing me £1300 for 3 weeks rental of a F650gs I pick it up on Feb11th in Aukland and drop it off on March 3rd in Christchurch.
I was put onto them by H-C Travel a great company very helpfull.
I am going to follow loosely the "Billy Connely 18 day tour of New Zealad route "
http://www.newzealand.com/travel/ge...lly-drives-new-zealand.cfm/context/print.html

after NZ I fly to Sydney for a weeks stop over with an internal flight to Ayres Rock. and home on the 12th March.

I meant to ask in my reply to you a couple of questions re the F650gs.
1 what sort of fuel tank range can I expect, and what sort of range can I expect on reserve.
2 having only had shaft drive for the last twenty years, how often do you have to adjust the chain .

Mike

1. If Single spark, 70mpg; if Twin spark, 80mpg. 200 - 250 miles then 40 miles on "reserve" light only, no switch.

2. If you keep the chain well lubricated, it should not need any adjustment.

May be worth noting the start up procedure:- Switch on ignition. Wait for all instrument lights to stop flashing (3-4 seconds). LEAVE THE THROTTLE ALONE. Press the starter button (LEAVING THE THROTTLE ALONE!). Get on & ride!

Enjoy!
