Any ideas please.

My uncle has a potentially dodgy Nav V which is exhibiting strange behaviour with simple routes and the dealer has told him to reinstall the firmware again.

I have looked myself on Garmin Express and I cannot see any way to reinstall Firmware - only map updates etc.

In the mean time I have advised he does a hard reset on the device which he is currently doing, but any help with the above would be welcome please.

Cheers

'Exhibiting strange behaviour' covers a multitude of possibilities, especially when involving a special uncle.

To answer your question, some more (even very basic) information would be helpful.

Failing that..... Um..... Hit with large hammer.

No wapping I didn't really need to mention the problems initially. (It's a routing issue though since you asked, whereby every route doesn't work. It is adding time to the route and not accounting for distance covered etc. Even when you arrive at your destination the nav doesn't acknowledge it and gives spurious information. These are simple "go to"routes created on the nav itself not created elsewhere. I've not seen this behaviour on any previous garmins and my own nav v works fine, so I'm trying to help him out!

I just need to know how to reinstall the existing firmware.! This was the advice given to him by the bmw dealer, and to be fair along with the system reset makes sense.

However, I can't find anything on garmins site nor on the help files for the nav or garmin express. Perhaps it's not possible afterall.

OK, so we now understand what the problem is and can hopefully discount user error. It's a pity that it's not something simpler that we might have been able to mend without resorting to reinstalling all the firmware.

Rather than struggling trying to reinstall the firmware, I suggest you do something much simpler.

The Nav V is a new device, still within its manufacturer's and / or BMW's own warranty. As it is clearly malfunctioning, return the device to the dealership along with the original receipt of purchase and ask them to either:

(1) Get it back to a state that it works correctly. If that entails them and not you reinstalling the firmware, so be it. Quite how the dealership expects you to reinstall the device's firmware without instructions on how to do it is a mystery, reflecting badly on the dealership's basic obligations.

Or

(2) Ask them to replace the device.

Or

(3) Provide a full cash refund.

Update - Reinstalling the firmware has done the trick. The device now operates as it should and is now routing correctly.
