Re-Loading iTunes

I've rebuilt my lappy a number of times and at the moment it seems quite stable (Thats the kiss of death). Before I re-built it i thought i best back up my iTunes stuff. Like the pratt I am i just found the folder where all the iTunes stuff was held and copied it to a remote drive.
I've now re-loaded iTunes and thought all i needed to do was copy the files back again but no, that doesnt work

Anyone any ideas?

I'm not too worried if i cant get everything back, lots of stuff was loaded from CD's I have, what i dont want to lose is all the stuff i've purchased from the iTunes store

You should be able to retrieve anything you've purchased from the iTunes store again, so don't worry about that.

Have you tried to import the copy you made?

buz dont know if its any help ,but i done a similar thing and found them on the the itunes purchased page from where you origanally bought them from once i loaded itunes back on ??

Thanks Chaps, there's more than one Library file in the folders I copied, looks like I picked the wrong one last night to import

Picked the right one and its all back now

You should be able to retrieve anything you've purchased from the iTunes store again, so don't worry about that.

No, not entirely.

I've done it with apps before, and presume that there must be something similar for music.

Failing that there is a "transfer purchases from ipod" option......

Just done it. Under file there's an option to transfer purchased items from the iPod to iTunes. Does app and books as well as music.

interesting. i didn't know that was possible officially either.

it was the idea of re-downloading from itunes that i was querying though. purely academic, i only have a relatively small amount of stuff from the store.
