For anyone interested in a story......
My big brother Chris got me into bikes as a small boy and always had big powerful machines when compared to the c90/FS1E machines of mine.
He bought a blue r100/7 in about 1979 and rode it for about 85k miles before selling the worn out remains to me in 1989, I kept it until 2006 and sold it on in order to buy a 1200gs (which I no longer own).
Always missed the r100 though.
Well, to cut a long story short, I have it back and intend to firstly get it mechanically sound and on the road so that we can share the enjoyment of riding it as a "classic", you know, out to the coffee shop, maybe take in a steam rally etc...

It was in a sorry looking state but after a bit of a blast with a jet wash and removing the dead mouse from the airbox along with 2lb of acorns and a nice pile of mouse "caviar" we have it running and ticking over nicely.

Here's a picture , the tank was off so I could get better access for cleaning--

Great story Patrick. The 100/7 really is one of the best airheads. Sadly most seem to end up as street scramblers or cafe racers. Mine has over 200k on it so there's plenty of life in yours yet.

double disc and s fairing is a big bonus.

I think it would be capable of a lot more than coffee shops and steam rallies. Chas recently took his 74 on a 6000 mile trip of the Baltic without any issues.

That's a great bike, and one of the real high points in BMW motorcycle design & manufacture.

The heavy flywheel 980cc engine is a pleasure to tour on, you've got a keeper there :thumb2

(and please don't 'customise' it...
stock bikes are getting increasingly rare, and when they're gone, they're gone!).

Thanks for the comments.
I have just "done" a couple of hundred quid on a jiffy bag of bits to rebuild the brakes and sort the HT leads out.
I'll post a pic or two when its got an mot later this year.
No danger of a custom job, I have learn't over the years to leave things std! (Wasted a few good bikes along the way though)
