Brockenhurst. The bearing itself should be designed to support the load upon which is placed upon it. As I stated in an earlier response, does a 747 jet have to be taken out of service every few landings for new wheel bearings because they've gone and shit in their pants? No.Not sure what you mean here -

the bearings will be no different to what they use on other bikes (I’m guessing here) but this bike is fucking heavy with a capital H so the stress is so much more ?
Anyway, at 9k miles and such a young age, you should expect and be getting a positive response from them.

It’s a consumable item - like brake pads or a chain & sprockets …Wear & tear
Fit some quality SKF bearings and you’ll be good to go
About 30 mins to refit new bearings

My Dad used to be uk sales manager for skf. That's why I have a good knowledge of bearings and their specific applications. Obviously bmw don't.
I can’t see any legal basis for them not to give you back the old bearing. I’ve replaced bearing a few times. It’s not really difficult. I don’t get replacement bearings I just go to shop in Tullamore with the old ones and hands me new replacements. JJH
What make are the bmw ones nowadays?
Bought my 2015 K16 with15k on it sold it 2 years later with 43k on it. No problems with wheel bearings.

A limited warranty is just that ,

I had a rear shock absorber fail at 32K they are only warranted to 30k, my claim was declined, and the goodwill offer still cost me £1300

My dealer tried to claim (wrongly) that the reverse gear on my K1600 GT wasn't covered under the insured warranty (it was). I also need new TPM sensors on the rear wheel the next time I change tyres, also not covered. It is a very expensive bike to repair / replace so the insured warranty is, IMHO a must-buy.
that to me is very strange...and despite the core issue which is of course the failure I would insist they return them to you. They have no right not to. It is your property. Whenever they replace anything at my dealers they automatically give you back the worn / used / old part or in the cae of the bigger things they keep it to show you.
That part is indeed very strange and i'd pursue them on that one....
Bad luck for a bearing to go so early and strange they wont let you have it. I too would have thought the supplying dealer may have offered some good will.
Ive had mixed experience with BMW approved used warranty, all really down to the small print and interpretation by dealer/warranty people. The exclusions and what is covered are not all identical through the 3 different warranties you could have e.g. Original 3yr factory warranty, 2 yr approved used warranty, or the insured warranty.
Judging by what has gone wrong already and how expensive it could have been, I shall be getting the insured warranty when my 2 yr approved used expires....

sorry @Philbrad66 but I have re-read and specifically your first post but what exactly is your point here.
Agree bearing failure is a problem and I too would have my concerns especially from a saftey perspective but what are you expecting from BMW exactly?

If its a goodwill gesture then I can understand the frustration but under their T&C's of their warranty they dont have to do anything.
Maybe this gives an indication that maybe BMW dont really care

A line has to be drawn somewhere - that was done by BMW at 3 years old regardless of whether it had done 3,000 miles, 30,000 miles or in your case, less than 9,000 miles
