Realy......end of November !!

I completed my first winter service on my 2012 GSA this last week.
Having a good look around it was apparent that the rear tyre was about to get to "Slick" status.
Ordered a replacement from Tyreleader.co.uk and it arrived 3 days later.

Now I live near Oxford so I rang our local "specialist" to fit it.
"We are now taking bookings for the end of November" was there reply.
"What, even for a tyre fitting on a loose wheel", " Yes " came the reply.
Nice to see customer service is alive and well at my local "Specialist " which did remind me why I bought my bike from Bristol

Not had any dealings with them in Oxford but, you bought a bike somewhere else, serviced it yourself, bought a tyre online and now want them to fit it, maybe they prioritise people who support them more?

Not trying to piss you off but that is what I would be thinking if I were them.

Maybe it's just them, Bahnstormer Alton always appear to bend over backwards to help most people!

What do you want them to do, ring somebody who is already booked in and tell them there's someone more important needs looking after. If you can service your own bike why don't you fit your own tyre, it's not difficult.

Quite right....I could drop off a wheel to any tyre business here and at worse expect it back within an hour. What sort of tyre business books people in to change their tyres weeks in advance ?

You have had all summer (whilst you were busy hooning your tyre to slick) to ready yourself for this inevitable moment. Shame you didn't spend 10 minutes of your (as opposed to their) valuable time working out what you'd need to do next.

No doubt at various times over the proceeding months you (being a keen self-reliant home service type of chap) will have at least looked at your tyre, checked its pressure and presumably seen how fast (or otherwise) you were approaching 1mm of tread or less left? No? Well maybe you should start doing so before next November leaps up to inconvenience you.

Matthew 7:5 might bring you more 'Technical' advice.

Just go to any car tyre dealer. Get him to change and balance it.

Come to Gloucester - Chris Mullins will happily change the tyres.

Whilst I was waiting to have the nice new Avons fitted to my Tracer there were a few people dropping off wheels with tyres bought online.

I also heard Chris say to someone on the phone, "I cannot get near that price, buy them online and we will fit them for you for £x." He a sensible businessman, having recently moved to larger premises. Making a tenner (more if you have a valve & balance) on a tyre he hasn't sold is better than making bugger all. Certainly better than having one of his many fitters twiddle his thumbs in slack periods.

Run it down to full slick status in the intervening 4 week period then.
After all,as my old Uncle Jack used to say...surely when all the tread grooves have gone,the tyre must be able to provide maximum adhesion.

There must be more than one place were you can get a tyre fitted near to where you live.

But maybe a lesson learned that if you don't support local places,don't expect them to drop all and assist you as and when you want.

I actually used a local Suzuki dealer to do the job yesterday (Saturday).
I do support my local Specialist as all the necessary service parts came from them and will continue to come from them.
It is just too expensive to get the whole job done there, is that not why people use Motoscot and the like when they need work done
I never expected them to jump up and do the job there and then, a few days later would be fine as the Suzuki dealer did.
So do not bite my head off please, it was only meant as a comment.

Are there no independent bike workshops in Oxford? TBH it's pretty likely that fitting a rear tyre to a GS is much the same as fitting one to any other bike wheel. And he can balance it on a car wheel balancer.
