Two rear Anakee's, three punctures :nenau

Has anyone eles had this?

The first tyre had 8338 mls on it with at least 2000 left. :( Big screw right through the centre £100.00 to get it replaced ( I'm sure I paid too much)

Second tyre picked up a nail at 7252 mls (sod the expence, I pluged it) 1600 or-so mls later picked up another nail  (plugged that bugger too, I'll get 10'000 out of this one you see if I don't :spitfire )

Are these Anakees prone to this or am I just having a run of bad luck? Not read anything about it though.

The front one was great :thumb2 16200+ mls and even with virtualy no tread pattern left on the off side edge it still gripped well in the rain.

Fitting a pair of TKC80's next month ready for Llangollen. Any one looking for a slightly worn front Anakee? think I might try Torences next winter.

You're getting far too many miles out of your tyres. By the time you're past 5K miles, you're living on borrowed time, so it's no wonder you're picking up punctures.....:augie

Why complain at that mileage !

Just unlucky I'm afraid, screws & nails will puncture any tyre - but how you get anywhere near those mileages I'll never know - your bike got a twist grip :nenau .

I managed just over 5k out of my only foray into Anakee territory - Oh & I'm not that quick a rider either ;) - still prefer Tourances though & get 6-7k out of them - sounds like if you can keep away from the nails you miight get 18 - 20k on them

Val - the only thing I can think of is your riding style. I know you keep well over to the left on a right hand bend - perhaps you're just that bit too close to the edge where all the crap accumulates. Its a theory - blow it out of the water if you want. :D

I had to walk back about 200 yds on a mortorway hard shoulder once to retrive a map, and you honestly wouldn't believe the number of screws, nails etc that I saw. You just don't realise that they're there when you're travelling at speed.

Hmmm as I thought rubbish in the road. Twist grip works fine, even better in the corners :D :D

SWMBO just had Tourences fitted to the 650 so I'll have a little play and decide from there. I've heard claims of 12000 from them :thumb

It's funny you should say that Taff, Maria said somthing simular last year on the Pink thing.
I think I tend to stay away from the edges, and not use as much of the road as I perhaps should. Seems I use more of it than I thought (I'm not following myself though, so I can't realy see so much of where I'm going).

Probably see you at the Abergrave in April mate, ride safe.

I've lost two rear Anakees on my 1100 before their tread was anywhere near gone. I'd only done a thousand or so on one and it had a big wide slice right down to the belt with a piece of flint buried in it. The other had a slice with no obvious cause but it quickly went flat. That one happened just after I'd filtered between lanes of traffic for a couple of miles so I suppose it could have been debris. Having said all that, as long as nothing sticks into them I find Anakees last OK but I'm not the most "enthusiastic" rider.

The next time I renew both ends I might try another brand.

Chris

I'd say you're doing all right with the tyres. I commuted on mine through London and never picked up a puncture on them in about 15k which was better than other tyres I've had.

You have a good point with the filtering Chris. I do this every day. I'm not one for stopping if I don't need to.

Monkey, do you mean you have managed 15'000 from a rear anakee, or just the front? if so, what have you managed from a rear? have you used Tourences and were they better?

Not on your nelly - 4-6k from a rear max. I'd be glad if the tyre would last longer than the rear pads :) Ratio of 2 rears to 1 front.

As previously mentioned ...

... here, I've managed just under 15K from a set of Tourances although they were filled with Ultraseal from new. Some peeps saw fit to slag off my riding style on the basis that I should only get 5K; I don't seem to hang about so they can go :redbone

Impressive mileages there boys!! The most I have managed out of a rear Anakee is 4500 miles!! I do ride like a tw*t most of the time mind you!! To many years on my supermotard I guess??

Val. I changed my first Anakee on the 12 at the 6K service with a few miles still left on it on it. I picked up a nail at 500 miles from new and plugged it myself with no ill effects, but I was never 100% happy. Rear will get changed along with the front at the 12K service for 2 more Anakees. I had Anakees on my previous 1100. Great tyres, especially in the wet :thumb2

I ride like a twat, and i have just booked mine in for a new rear, its just passed 9k.

BUT a lot of those miles have been on the autobahn at around the 85-100 mark

(and its costing around £86 fitted to the bike)

Never had a puncture with sportsbikes. My last rear Tourance had 2 punctures in short succession not long after it was fitted. I got about 7.5K before the tread was badly worn. It had a good few miles left in it but I hated the squared off feeling when tipping into corners, and when removed from the rim the tyre stood up on its own it was so square.
