I have seen several 100GS bikes with the rear brake actuator swiveled through 180 degrees ie, pointing upwards ! I'm likely to be on some dodgy roads this summer, where the trucks have made deep tyre channels in the roads, so thinking this might be a sensible mod to make. Can't find any info in the usual places, so who has made this mod, and where might I get the necessary bracket/conversion please ?

To clarify, my 100GS PD has the cable rear brake, not the rod version !

Thank you.

IIRC you need to have different brake actuator arm. Aftermarket one, again IIRC. Can't help with who make them though.

HPN, Touratat....
HPN you can also get a modified set of shoe's and a better cam..:thumb

Yep, forgot that. Its a BMW part off a slash 7 or something... Mat at bmwboxersupplies keeps a stock of second-hand ones... think he only sells them with the bracket though:rolleyes:

would wait a bit, someone will be along with the mod you described. I have seen it somewhere . By modifying the original lever better angles are obtained and the brake works better. I was interested but hav,nt got around to it yet.

Like this.... Gives a better angle at the actuator than the Gletter version and does not use the shock mount.

Hi Pastyman -never heard of that one , so I'm curious !

Wish the picture on the QTech site was a bit bigger and higher definition, as I can't make out how it attaches etc:blast I'm a bit suspect of loading anything onto the rear shock mount. Having a longer bolt is surely not a good idea ?

:blast:blast I really must learn to read the original posts properly. The mod you describe is not what I had in mind. I was refering to a mod to the brake pedel which improved the leverage and thus the braking on the rear wheel.
I did look at your proposed conversion on the BMW Airheads site. bloke thgere gives a nut and bolt description of the hpn kit but interestingly recons that apart from a bit of peace of mind it didnt do much. Worth a read before you spend thye dosh.

Still cant find the other mod

ive a feeling it was on the 'other' site, posted by sorebums. from what i remember he moved the hole which holds the cable to the pedal clockwise round the pedal pivot point untill it was nearer the top.not sure if he altered the distance. karl.

I think it is on Old School over on Adverture Tourers, and it involves cutting the pedal and rewelding it so the pedal gets a straighter pull at the cable.

And remember the better the back brake the quicker you wear out the drum -DAHIK.

It's Simon McCarthy's (Sorebum) mod where he cut the top off the brake pedal arm and turned it through 90deg before welding it back on. It provided a straighter pull on the cable, and a mod I am about to carry out when I find out what angle the saw cut needs to be.

also check out moorespeed.co.uk , as they sell a kit for this mod

I received an email from Simon McCarthy this morning so will be modifying my rear brake pedal this week. I'll take the usual pics and add them to my thread, when done.
