Hi all fellow GS ,ers! went to John O groats last weekend via Glencoe, arr lovely BUT my friend behind me(on a harley you see ;) ) infomed me my brkae light was on nearly all the time, he was right my foot just resting on the rear brake lever activates the light(with no down ward pressure) tried adjusting it with no luck, did,nt want to bugger up servo switch, BMW (Mill) said "yes its a problem, nowt can do done, but dont disconnect the light switch! any ideas any one?!

PS, Gs1200, what a bike , John o groats was my 1st decent ride,900 miles in 1 weekend, wow it really punchs out of corners( I have a GSXR 1000 also but the GS wins these days!) :clap

Two options:

Adjust the brake lever. it's not too hard really. First you adjust the bolt in the brake pedal to give you the lever height you want. Then adjust the push rod at the back of the brake pedal so that there's a couple of mm travel before the push rod hits the piston in the master cylinder. This sounds complicated but you can easily do it by feel.

Second option, which is a bit more drastic: Put insulating tape around the switch so that it never activates. I assume you have an ABS equipped bike? Your dealer is right, if you disconnect the switch it will stop the servos initialising when you turn the bike on. But if you tape up the switch they will be fine. Your brake light will not work any more (from the rear brake obviously) and you will get a red warning light on the dashboard informing you that something is wrong. But the servos still work.

I do this all the time to mine when I go trail riding, otherwise dirt and branches and stuff get stuck in the switch and jam it on, meaning the servos run constantly.
