Went out yesterday had a fairly nice jaunt..Wasnt going all out but had some fun and towards end of ride rear brake wasnt there any more, lever just pushed down with no resistance.
Pulled bike out today and its back and seems ok, fluid is about halfway between min and max marks. Pointed towards brake fade, but it hadnt had that much abuse to me.
Its an ABS model 1150... any pointers to check ??

When was the fluid last changed? I'm thinking air somewhere in there to start with.

Disc and pads OK? (Just changed mine after 40,000 so might be worth a look there too).

I'm sure the Guru's will be here soon.

Good luck!

Check that the caliper isn't sticking, it's a sliding caliper. Sticks, pad drags, lots of heat, fluid boils, no brake.

Cools down all good. Look for particles of brake pad burnt into the lacquer on the rear rim.

That's where my money would be. Things can get quite hot...

If this is what as happened I'd recommend a fluid change and new seals in the caliper...

Looks familier

Had the same melted gaiter a while ago when the local BMW dealer adjusted all the free play out of the rear brake lever. Claimed they didn't touch it when I went to complain! So the locknut worked itself loose, the rod turned several times taking out almost all the free play and then the locknut tighten itself up again. Thankfully there are the right tools under the seat and I was able to re set it, but only after the rear brake had almost seized on. A local who stopped to check I was OK said the dealer in question had a poor reputation. So if you come out here try to avoid the BMW dealer in Spittal
I only went there to get the bike tested for import, I do my own servicing and just have the local garage to the MOT equivalent once a year (or thereabouts-we get three months grace here for the test!)

Boiled fluid, the brake then goes awol then when it cools returns to a certain degree, change the fluid as it will be knackered.
I lost the back brake last year on the 1150 on the Grossglockner having fun with a couple of local bikes. Once cooled down the brakes worked again to a lesser degree
