Can anyone help, I have had my new GS a little over a week now, what a bike. My only concern is that the rear brake seems to be completley PANTS !! and when used on its own is does not seem to be doing anything and there is a lot of travel in the pedal. I have ridden other BMW's with the same braking system and you can definatley feel the brake working on those.

Any ideas / thoughts would be appreciated :thumb

Reduce the travel in the pedal, and use it a bit, so it beds in well, had the same problem, but not a problem, if you se what I mean. :thumb

There's a little threaded bar and locknut going from under the pedal and up into the brake cylinder.
If there is too much slack, you'll have to move the pedal loads before it does anything.

Screw this to extend the distance between pedal and cyl..You're basically taking up the slack on the pedal so it acts qucker and you can get more pressure without having to be double jointed.

Plan B is to superglue some lego blocks to the sole of your right shoe.. Gives the same effect.

I've got the same issue and SPC and SLM both told me 'they all do that' and I shouldn't fiddle with the adjuster. They suggested I just get use to it and any adjustment would result in premature brake pad wear.

Not convinced - but at least I can't lock up the rear under heavy braking !

Adjust both the pedal, and the stop bolt for the brake light switch, to a comfortable position that allows you to apply the brake fully. If the rear wheel spins freely after adjustment (remembering that there is some drag from the shaft drive) then there will be no issues with premature brake wear. The pads may need some bedding in before you get optimum performance.
I don't use the rear as much as the fronts, ocasionally dragging it on a bend, or for the odd emergency stop. Mine does lock up when used in anger, doesn't it KevinC? :D

Try an Airhead GS rear brake   and you'll know how great your 1200GS rear brake is

It works for holding the bike while at (e.g.) Traffic Lights - what else do you need it for :nenau

Perhaps a silly question, but why do you need more power at the rear? Surely with linked brakes all you need the back alone for is to aid slow speed maneuvering etc. My 06 back stopper is pretty feeble but adequate for the slow stuff. But then perhaps yours is even more feeble :D
