Right chaps ...

though I'd give the XC the once over before the Ryedale. Fited some HD inner tubes and then went to replace the rear brake pads..

This is probably a silly question but …

How do I remove the rear brake pad pin on my 07 XChallenge?

It ain’t obvious to me – does it need some force?

I replaced my rear pads recently and I had to give the pin a gentle tap with a wooden mallet and old screwdriver to get it out.
Depends how much dirt is around the pin as to how big a tap it needs, I checked a few times whether I was trying to get it out from the right side as it took a little bit of force to get it going.

It will only go one way...have a look where the pin sits in the calliper, one side you will see the end of the pin quite easily, the other side you won't, plus the hole will be smaller-this is the side to hit.

Don't forget to squish the fluid out of the calliper before removing the pads and remove the r-clip.

Like everyone else has said, take the circlip off from the right side of the pads and push the pin through from the opposite side (left).
It will come out, does need a bit of a tap though.
