Just put my 2014 WC GSA in for its 12k service......which was a shocker in terms of price but that's been discussed in other threads.....

...what has been more of a shocker is that my rear pads have gone down to the metal and scored the disc - £300++ for disc and pads and labour. I'm sure everyone on here checks their bike carefully before riding to ensure safety....(cough)....but to be honest I tend to ride every working day and 25k miles a year, the bike is in the dealer on a regular basis and they kinda spot low wear and warn me (I'm not excusing myself - my fault for not checking myself). This last year (especially since Summer last year till now) I've cut my miles by half on the bike due to change in work etc etc - hence only 12k in 10months.

So - I'm sure you all do......but just a warning to check your rear pads - looks like they wear a lot quicker than my last 4 GSA's....

The frustrating thing is that I NEVER use my rear brake manually, its all with the linked braking - which I have zero control over.

What is everyone getting, mileage wise, from their rear pads ?
 
Spoko to my local BMW technician about this and he says this is because, especially for light braking, only rear brake is applied before front comes in. If you have a Nav 5 and look at ride stats, rear is applied twice as frequently as front.
 
Got 8K out of Bmw pads, had same problem as Flipper Man, went in for service and found out they were down to paper thin.
Had Bmw pads put in but changed them at 10k and put in EBC pads as the BMW pads already looked over half worn and was going on a longish trip, am now on 28k and the pads are still ok.
 
I got 6k out of mine on a GSA. According to the tech the rear brakes can be applied by the traction control system without the rear brake lever being applied.

Massively heavy braking at the last minute appears to be the order of the day then ! Stats on my Nav5, since new, show:
Front: 20,817
Rear: 25,104

I think I'll go for alternative pads when the next set are done...being fitted in the morning. If I'd known earlier then I'd have gone to Steptoe and asked him to do them but its the cost of not working, travelling, convenience etc etc.....all adds up I guess.
 
Could tell me which make rear pads you have been using as I need to replace mine please? I'm in a quandry over whether EBC, Brembo or Ferodo!
 
i would be very surprised if cruise applies the brakes,backs off the throttle yes.
 
Cruise control keeps applying brakes and the throttle (not at same time) to keep at the set speed, thats why you never get as good fuel economy using cruise compared to manual.

This is another fault with the LC eating breaks were will the faults stop
 
I have done and I can't find any CC system (other than adaptive cruise control variants fitted to high end cars) that claim to be able to apply the brakes when in operation?

The GS/GSA system isn't an adaptive one so I was hoping that you could point me at a link or thread that confirms the CC system applies the brakes whilst in operation? :nenau

BMW car non adaptive cruise controls apply brakes to maintain speed when going down hill. I've had two like this since 2009. Not sure this helps but riding the bike in a high gear down a steep hill with a closed throttle will expose the answer.
 
I hope you did not pay for them

It would seem from you post that your bike is serviced at extreme cost by the supplier.
Since it has been serviced according to BMW schedules, I would fight the bit out and demand they replace disk free of charge, since the motorcycle is not fit for running 6000 miles between services.
If a car manufacturer tried fitting such thin brake pads in a vehicle, they would soon find themselves without a market.
As far as I can judge, the only thing that needs doing regularly (Circa 6000 miles) on a modern BMW is the replacement of rear brake pads.
They could at no cost fit wider calipers and pads, but they choose to produce the current dung to generate an income for themselves and their dealers.
