Does anyone know if the rear brake pads on the last model 1200gs will fit the 2013 lc model. Mine are down to the metal, struggling to find them on the net. Any assistance would be great as we are in bergen on our return from thr artic.

Sorry, I can't help you with the answer, but I'd be interested to know your mileage on the rear pads.
...and whether you are a heavy back brake user or whether its the linked ABS wearing them down? Seems from another thread that the brake compound might be quite soft as they appear to wear very quickly.
Same as K1600 pads I believe. Perhaps easier to source? Best of luck, paul

I checked the pads before I left at 2800 miles and they looked absolutely fine, I did not check again until yesterday and now down to the metal at 5500 miles. I did go in to bmw dealer before I left to c if he would give me a set to bring with me due to the posts on here about early wear and people getting them replaced under warranty and he said he had heard nothing from bmw. So unfortunately I left it at that. Now i'am trying to nurse it home without to much damage, disc already lightly scored.

My bike was an early build but not delivered until April due being held up for fork tube rework.
BTW it takes about 30 seconds to take the pads out. Just remove two spring pins and pull the retaining rod out it couldn't be easier and no tools needed.

Don't suppose you measured the thickness?
Or, does anyone know the thickness of new pads (pad material or material and plate). This would give everyone a reference to work too...
Happy to take them out and measure but could someone post up thickness of a new pad?

My bike has only done 2k miles - I've removed the pads, the outboard one is 7.18mm, the in board is 7.25mm. The backing plate is 3.60mm (approx) so I have 3.58mm and 3.65mm of material respectively.
Ok the bike has linked brakes and I tend to use the back as well.
If you can measure yours at 3.6k miles and anyone else can chip in, that would help.
If the original pads are only say 4.00 - 4.20mm I've got nothing to worry about.
I covered 20k miles on my last GS and never changed the back pads.. To be honest can't remember if the front ones were changed either..

If you're taking them out anyway
No need for a series of pics. They are the simplest pads to remove/change I've had..
Remove the split pins, push the rod out - not all the way and slide out the pads.
When refitting make sure you locate the tab on the pad at the front of the calliper, to be honest unless you don't the rod won't go back.
Simples !!

Why bother worrying or changing them?
You are well under the service interval. Just ride away, and let BMW replace disk & pads when youj get back. And complain bitterly that the brake is not fit for purpose.

Save any problem just fit some EBC pads

There not the same as the ones on ebay.I bought theses and they def don't fit.

When I rented an LC at the Motoraad Enzian Hotel in Austria, I asked the question re pad wear, and the guy in charge said that BMW had told them to make sure that the rears pads were changed at 5000

Am keen to try extended test ride on an LC. any suggestions on rental ~ have tried Motorrad Enzian Hotel in Austria website but its bit ambiguous (no reference to LCs) also not sure of arrangements to get there so any info appreciated! Bought my 1200GS in 04 and then discussion was about alternative screens, seats, FDs and rear pad wear (caliper running hand hot). Looking at LC forums now and much the same topics! Given the accelerated wear on LC rear brake pads is a known prob, if scoring appears on disc then is bmw recovery (presumably bike is under warranty) an option?

I got the only pair of pads in stock in bmw bergin this morning for 83 euro, raped! Oh well what price piece of mind. The guy had good english so rang bmw headquarters in oslo to check about gettin them free under warranty due to premature wear, no joy! Loving the bike except for the shit gearbox.
