Rear Brake Pads

Reading through the above prompted me to go check my March '07 GS and the original pads have plenty left at 8623 miles. I normally check them when I clean the bike, at least once or twice a week. The back are more worn than the front - I would estimate the rear are down to approx. 4mm.
I ride "enthusiatically". No ABS - just basic brakes.

It seems that the ABS/linked brake system is very heavy on pads.

Cheers Gents. I forgot to mention by the way that my bike is an ABS one with the linked brakes and servos. My riding is mostly commuting to and from work - which is 'B' roads and the lanes - but not much in the way of stop start traffic. Sounds like I need to look at a set of sintered pads next time.

PHEW ! No problem.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've just read through this thread from the start and was getting VERY nervous about my pad situation.I'm just back from the Garage,the racing heart is slowing down and i can report;
My 06 1200 GS (ABS),First used 03/04/06, 670 miles on Std Cast Wheels.17" 1200ST Wheels fitted @ 1st Service.Mileage now 6644 and having just checked,there is plenty of meat on both rear pads.I'm assuming that the grooves through the front pads are wear indicators? There is a lot of pad left if so. The bike (1 of 3 in the Toy Cupboard) has been used for leisure use only,including going to the Manx GP 06 and TT 07.During that time,it has not been out in much bad weather,only commuted on (22 miles e/w) a few times,i've not ridden like a wuss (i ride briskly,sometimes too briskly-14 days of a 56 day ban to go) and as far as i can remember,i have not used the rear brake pedal.I make no judgements about the use or riding style of others,i'm just posting this for people to compare with their situation.

Perhaps contributing to one of the other threads on the go already might help resolve this problem. Only a thought, but there are a 'few' others on the go atm to choose from :D :augie ;)

11000 miles and I reckon still good for another 11000. ABS bike used for pleasure & touring, not much stop start or slow town riding
