Might want to consider sticking with BMW pads whilst in warranty. The rear disc could easily go before 20k and they'll pay up for a new disc if you ask nicely. May not be the case if you've not got OEM pads.

In my experience this is not the case 'My local dealer is NOG' BW apparently consider this to be fair ware and tare. Mine was seriously worn at ten thousand and below legal limits by eighteen thousand.
when I complained I got a firm NO. There was no mention of the type of pads I had.
I pushed the disc to 31000mls then replaced it with an EBC 'sadly Steptoes disc wasn't ready'.
Buy EBC HH pads. Only £18.99 from M&P at Dorchester. NoG told me that my rear disc was worn beyond limits at 18000 service, but would not tell me what the limit was. They quoted me £215.00 just to change the disc. Bike has now got 21000 miles with no obvious wear increase. Measuring my disc I have got a thickness of 4.5mm at the edge (no wear), and 4.25mm in the worn portion. Is my disc in limits ?

Steve,
according to the Technicak Data sheets on AndyW's 1200GS RepROM CD, the disk starts at 5mm, wear limit is 4.5. At 4.25 mm your disk is worn beyond the manufacturers limits....
