bike is a 2006 and at 14500 miles, looks like its about to need a new rear brake disc due to warp, it had one previous with another owner

any views on the best make to buy and reasons as to why it happens/ways to fix it for good? (i hardly use the rear and theres no abs or servo)??

Try cleaning the rotor's and remove the pads and give them a cleaning also(light sanding on a flat surface).
Crap collects in those areas and will give the appearence/feel of a warped disc/rotor.
Hey it don't cost nuttin' to try, maybe even save ya a few bux or I mean *pounds*! :nenau

Make sure it is the disc that is warped and not the disc carrier loose_moving on the splines
