My rear pads on a 2014 GSA TE wear really fast compared to the front - lasting 3-4 k if I'm lucky. Any one else experiencing this sort of wear?

Mine were down to metal at 3,400

Its normal - (linked brakes) some wear them faster than others if still using the rear brake traditional style otherwise front brake use will bring in the rear as well subject to conditions

Mine were 50% worn at the 6500 mile service, but down to the metal at 8500 miles after a few days in the Alps. The replacements fitted by the BMW dealers in Italy are supposed to be the new harder wearing type with a silver coloured backing plate.

How can it be normal for pads to wear out in 3-400 miles?

Are they made out of cheese?

Surely when a bike is serviced the pads should have enough left on them to last to the next service, if not they should be replaced or the owner advised at the very least.

Safety is obviously the first priority but financially allowing pads to wear out so that the disc(s) are ruined is madness.

Very professional. You can't argue with the video evidence.

The technician is quite right to point out that the pads won't last until the next service, but if I'd I paid to have them replaced I would expect the new ones to last until it was next serviced.

Pad wear is obviously subject to riding style. I would be upset at the thought of paying for new pads every 3-4000 lies.

10K plus is more like it.

Mine lasted 4,000 miles on my 14 GS TE and cost me a new rear disc! I was amazed that they wore so quickly. I understand that BMW changed the part number.

I guess they must have done, mine was manufactured 02/15, bought it in October, and after 3k miles showing very little wear to the rear pads, about the same as the front.

BMW has a problem with either the pads, how they have their link system set up, or both because a lot are having this issue. Using the front brake with these linked brakes, from what I've gathered, actually activates the rear just a little bit first then the front comes on stronger with increasing pressure. Riders who do a lot of very light braking are the ones who seem to prematurely wear out rear pads. The original pads on my 2014 GSA (25,000 miles) are down to maybe 25% now which reminds me I better order a set to have on hand.

After suffering the excessive wear of the genuine BMW pads I purchased a set of £7.00 or so pads of e-bay. After posting on here I was bombarded with a fair bit of ridicule, however 7500 miles later not am I still alive but the pads are still good. (Brooks Barns were the supplier)

Agreed. Mine were worn down by 6000 miles, kindly replaced free of charge by my dealer as a gesture of goodwill. Another 5000 miles on and the second set are shot and at £65 quid for a set + £30 odd for fitting I was a little bit taken aback so I too now have a £13 set of EBC from NippyNorman's.

What I was a little bit amused to see was, written on the back of the "official BMW" replaced set was the word Brembo. (Understandable as they are Brembo callipers) However as far as I can see they appear to be identical to those Brembo pads that can be bought anywhere an appear to contain nothing magical or fairy-dust like!

Genuine Brembo pads from the importer Bike Torque Racing, inc vat & delivery, are less than half the BMW price!!

I don't know what you lot are doing.
Multiple trips to Scotland, Wales, Europe and commuting and I've just had my rears replaced at 19K and am still on the original front pads.

I bought my 13 plate in December with just over 3k and the rear pads were shot. Just hope the EBC pads last a bit longer.
