Nice easy one for the tech experts in here! My rear break light has gone, warning symbol looks like its a bulb gone, any special advice i need to sort it? how do i sort it? just unscrew and replace? can i use a standard bulb from my bike shop or do i need to order a beemer part? all help appreciated- thank you

Standard bulb from Halfords. 21/5w. Just unscrew two cross-head bolts holding on red plactic, remove, replace, screw back on. Don't overtighten the screws or the plastic will crack.

If the light still doesn't work, or the warning doesn't go away, you may have corroded connectors in front of the light unit. The connections are a bit exposed.

No it is NOT a std bulb from Halfords.:nono

Read the manual, it is a Osram long life bulb, if you fit a std bulb you will get an error message come up.

The long life bulbs have a thicker element, hence they have more electrical resistance.

There is a thread that I started on this very subject a while ago, do a search and all will revealed. :thumb2

Not on my standard bulb from Halfrauds you don't. :nenau
Came in blister packs of two.
Just picked one with the same code no. P25/2 (12v 5...21)and the job seems to be a good 'un. Manual doesn't seem to mention long-life or plug Osram prouducts, unless the code means something? :nenau

Pages 115/116 of the GSA handbook and can't remember anything about it in the vanilla GS book either.

Well, lets put it this way, I tried several std bulbs and while everyone worked fine I had an error message on the dash. :nenau

Fitted the long life bulb, no error message.

Can't help. Grubby contacts? Long life bulb slghtly better made on the 'prongy bayonet / contact bits'?

I got error messages, on start up only, long before the OE bulb failed. A sharp tap on the red lens cover sorted it out each time.

From memory, the error message stays on, despite changing the bulb, until the engine is started. Is it possible you didn't start the bike until fitting the long-life bulb?

any idea as to a supplier of long life bulbs?

No, but you don't need a 'longlife bulb', what ever that is. I've had 2 bulbs go over the time I've had the bike - just replace with any of the correct wattage from Halfords or your local garage. They've worked fine.

I think sometimes the issue about the non-clearing fault on the display is to do with the fact that you have to run the engine before the 'fault' disappears - it does not go just be replacing the bulb alone.
