Rear drive spline lubrication

If that is what Herr Swingarm used on my bike when he built it, its useless. It was as dry as a wooden God and looked more like seagull shit than a form of water repelling grease. I used Castrol Molub-Alloy Paste White T.

To be clear, I used this on the gaiter where it joins the swingarm/final drive housing and a quality moly based grease for the splines themselves.

Can anyone explain why the driveshaft will not pull all the way out without dismantling the swinging arm?

Any decent moly cv grease on the splines and white marine grease on the gaiter.
Not expensive.

It will if you pull harder, but you won't be able to get it back in again unless you acess the shaft via the front gaiter.

Having had a driveshaft snap on me due to water ingress I'm using the lubricants/sealants that BMW use - Optimoly paste and STABURAGS NBU 30 PTM assembly grease

Thats Starbucks stuff is crap though. Mine was dry as chalk and was clearly letting water in.

Strange, on my previous and current LC's it's always been very sticky

Unlike my RT where there was none.

Thought I’d check mine this morning after all this discussion and sure enough no grease on splines and starting to rust, hardly any of the white grease left on gaitor but worst of all the shaft has been rubbing on the inside and caused 2 small holes to wear through !
Not happy, bike only 18 months old and 8K miles
New gaitor ordered from Motorworks

warranty job!.. get it back to AJ's !

Bike bought from Bowkers at Preston but I’d rather sort it myself and have piece of mind
Wouldn’t touch AJ’s with a barge pole !

Is this really worth doing? I don’t want embark on this completely unnecessarily. I suppose it gives peace of mind.

Thought I'd takle this today, dropped the rear drive and pulled the gaiter back and I'm happy to report that it was all pristine inside, looked factory fresh and the white marine grease used on the gaitor was still present.Happy days.
