the g/s came with a 37:11 gear (3.36) there was an option for a 32:10 gear (3.20) i can only find that the gear set is sold and no NOS or used drives.

do these drives exist?? looking to buy one to try on my g/s 1000cc.

is it worth the expense to have one built? i have the housing. gear set is 500$ from bmw.

Where are you from and what is $500 in £?

In practice for 500$ and a rebuild costs you get a 5% change across all your ratios.

A more usual way to add 5% is to put in +5% 5th gear in the gearbox. This is £100 + rebuild which I suspect is cheaper.

However if you are building an engine with loads of extra power you might want to do both, and lower the first gear -5%

On my project bike I am trying to move to a 4bolt 33/11 drive which is 3.0 or +10% - but so far I am not finished and don't know yet whether my efforts will work out.

BTW where are you from? I was wondering what your $'s are compared to £'s

i have a 33/11, those are plentifull. i think with a 1000cc that rear would be great but 1st gear would need to be droped back to 37:11 and 1st ratio. then u would have the best of both world. i have run the 33:11 with a mag wheel and the driving is ok. but off road would be a bit tricky... eventhough the r100gs has a 3.09 (34:11) which is not much differed to that of a 33:11. i don't really have any complaints about the 37:11 except the fuel econ.

i live in the US. 500$ is about 300 GB pounds. a good tranny rebuild here is 400-600$ but i have the tools to do those and have done one before. just changing the gears are easy.

finding a r100 spoked hub and having it laced for an 18" is the trouble. expensive.
