Hi all.
Does anyone know or have pics as to what touches down at the rear of a 1250gs when the bike is lying down - both sides ?

I have cylinder crash bars but am curious as to what rear damage could occur.
I know i could tip the bike over but before i do, i was hoping someone knew the answer.

This will hopefully lead me to buying the correct rear end crash bungs etc.for both sides.

Thanks in advance for any help.
Rowle.

What an interesting question, and an absolute way to learn some skills at the same time ;)

Go and lie your bike down on the garden, and then you can observe firsthand what parts at the rear touchdown.

Not only that, you get to learn how to pick up your mighty steed :)

It all depends if you have panniers fitted ;) ;)

cardon drive , exhaust and pannier rails if you dont have em on :D

In my experience of GSA's the front crash bars take all the weight, rear is left in air.

Ok, this is my 2009 GSA , but hey little difference in the basic frame
Pablo1 is correct
No part of the bike at the rear touches the ground other than a foot peg

However, that is stationary and does not allow for twisting and spinning or tipping
Do the same ; it’s a useful ‘picking up your bike ‘ exercise.

Thanks guys. I really appreciate the replies.
Already done level 2 bmw offraod days so know how to pick a bike up up but never took much notice what grounded.

Doing a few offroad days in the lakes soon so was just curious in case i dumped it on my own bike.

I threw my '17 GS down the road on the exhaust side at 40/45mph, nothing touched down, it slid along on the tyres and touratech crash bars.

I threw my 04 GS down the road and my bastid foot touched down got twisted back and I spent 10 weeks in a cast......but that dosent really answer your question

For a 1200lc, the final drive will touch if you have Machine Art head covers instead of crash bars.

Interesting, if it is that close, the ground would not have to be very uneven to touch the FD down.
That FD guard could be a big money saver.

These are great answers - thank you.
There are so many protector options out there. You dont hear much about the exhaust side so thanks CPJS .

I do have SW Motech crashbars but was worried about the rear - especially when i remove my panniers when doing a bit of gravel laning.
Thanks again.

Final drive guard, will save you pounds should the worst happen.

By final drive guard, are you meaning the bungs or the one that looks like a small peice of 10mm bar bolted on ?
Cheers.
