Normal for Norfolk!
I have a March 2011 TC 1200 gsa and have just spoken to my local stealer about the recall (as I have heard nothing from BMW).
They checked the database and have told me my bike is too new and already has a updated flange fitted.:nenau

Bike was bought from stealer 1/12/14 and is still under warranty :clap

Does this sound right?
Does anybody have any piccies of old and new for a comparison please?
What does the newer one look like?

Will let the normal abuse begin....................

No reason for the dealer to lie. The liability isn't with him.
Can't help you but putting "BMW r1200 flange cracking" into Google fetched up quite a few pictures.
Perhaps you could compare against your own bike.

'Stealer'...... You are a wag:rolleyes:

I went into my local dealer only last week to ask the same question - mine is late GSA 2011 bike. I only bought it October 2014
I have had nothing from BMW

Dealer showed me the computer - no outstanding recall(s) and also said that means it already has the newer flange fitted

I intend to take the wheel off anyway this weekend for look see

From what I've read the new flanges are steel and thinner than the affected ones requiring the fitting of a spacer too if that helps?

So they knew about the fault, rectified it on production machines from April 2011 onwards, yet waited until 2015 to retrospectively sort the issue with existing owners?

Shameful, I told them about this issue years ago and they pretended it wasn't a problem.

According to the US article linked earlier ( http://bmwmcmag.com/2015/03/recall-coming-for-03-11-bmw-k-and-r-series-motorcycles/ ) BMW only became aware of the problem late last year.

Production methods/materials are changing all the time, and not simply because a problem has been identified (more often in response to market forces - i.e. to make it cheaper).

Had mine replaced today by some very nice chaps at SBW Motorrad in Welwyn Garden City. I have a 2006 R1200GS.

SBW also replaced a fuel gasket as it appears that there was a recall on that too for my year of bike.

Good coffee too. The only downside was looking at all the nice new shiny bikes :drool

I called Williams Manchester today and was told they are waiting for parts as they are in short supply. July the earliest. Mine is due something in the fuel pump too.

Good question????
Will take wheel of tomorrow and have a look unless there is a better way to check?
I assume it will be obvious to a chimp like me?

A cynic would argue a better way is to get your dealer to run your VIN through the system, & establish if it is or isn't in the potentially affected range - which apparently, yours isn't. :rob

My 2010 GS has the new flange fitted. Came out of the factory like that.

And when you take your wheel off and 'look see' at your flange, will you be able to tell an old 'suspect' flange from an updated 'everything is fine, put your wheel back on' flange?
