Finally, despite snow and ice I picked the bike up - really pleased with it but wtf!!! all the crap gets sprayed from the road over everything, from the top of my helmet to the soles of my boots, Can anyone recommend a decent rear hugger - no fancy carbon fibre (no money left after the bike!), just something functional and effective?

Welcome to the world of the GS :thumb2

I'll be the first of many to recommend a Mudslinger....a piece of plastic cowl that prevents the mud spraying everywhere.

Nippy Normans sell them, among others, sell them....but they're not cheap!

Twalcom also do one I think?

I also find fitting the side panels available by Touratech or Wunderlich make a big difference.

Take a look at a BestRest Spraystopper, not a peice of fibreglass or plastic but a neoprene shroud that is fitted in ten minutes & provides really good protectiion.

Whatever you do, avoid a pyramid hugger: lots crack or split, mine resonated at certain speeds giving a nasty sound and then the supports bent a little causing it to rub on the tyre.

Have you not seen the sticky at the head of the 1200 section?? Potential group buy of something a bit cheaper....
