rear master cylinder

1977. BMW. R100RS.
Just rebuilding the rear Brembo master cylinder. and wondered if there should be a circlip in the end to stop the piston coming out. there wasn't one in the kit and I didn't remove one when I stripped it. Most master cylinders I have rebuilt have had a circlip at the end.

is there a stepped metal ring ? if so , this is it .

Colin, I don't think there is one. The lever arm stops the piston popping out. The seals and rings need to go on in the right order.
