Has anyone removed the ugly rear mudguard thing on their GSA, and if you have what have you replaced it with to cover the holes in the shaft..

Are you referring to the thing at the back as I understand it required by German law ?

I have considered taking mine off which I have seen removed from several Multis but not GSs

Removed it on my gs & blanked holes off with shorter screws, my mate complained of the spray thrown up when following. Refitted when traded in for a gsa.

Indeed I am, however as we are no longer part of the EU i thought i'd remove it...:D

I took it off my old 1150 GSA as i prefer the look and i replaced the holes left with a TT plate. I'd like to do the same on the LC but haven't found a part to replace it as yet. I could just put the bolts back in but they are too long without the plastic mudguard and i'm reluctant to cut them down..

Thats probably the main reason that I haven't taken mine off, I used to get pissed off following associates with chain oilers spraying me and wouldn't like to do it with stones etc.

Took mine off and went to Bahnstormer where Rob gave me some shorter stainless screws to refit into holes - job done :thumb2

I took mine off for a trip to France last month, used some shorter screws to plug the holes, I did it as an experiment to see if it would stop my pillion getting her legs splattered with rain wash and road muck.

It did not improve things at all, in fact my panniers and top box ended up even muckier than normal.

It's back on the bike now where it belongs and that's where it's staying.

I think it looks better without it. And without the pannier rails too. I also made a new number plate bracket, to angle the plate out which solves any spray over the back.

As others have said; I've removed mine in an attempt to stop filthy spray covering the pillios seat sides and everything in between. I used shorter stainless screws to blank the holes and I also fitted a Hugger.

I prefer the look but I'm not convinced the spray issue is resolved.

Does that number plate bracket also have secondary benefits ?:augie

I'd agree with that, it makes little difference to road spray fitted or not.

Looks are subjective and as said above if you ride in a group the spray and muck are thrown higher which isn't great for riding mates following you, as for the angled plate solving the mud spray issue..........yeah right :augie

I've tried a hugger on previous a GS, a carbon Illmberger it was a nicely made ornament and no use whatsoever.
