Rear rack cracking?

Hi All, I`m a GS (and GSA!) guy and you might have already heard about me - I do quite a bit in the `GS1200` sectoion of the forum.

Anyhoo - one of my recent clients was one of you fine `Yeomen of the RT` types with a request to make him `something bespoke` to strenthen the rear rack as it was cracking from the undue pressure from the topbox (and possibly his good lady from leaning back on it).

Nonetheless I made the said bespoke thing for him (it`s what I do) and he seems as happy as a pig in s**t.

I can assure you I actually saw the fracture on the rack, although it seemed very odd to me (I bet you guys don`t believe about al the FD`s we get through eh?) so he was on the level.

Has anyone else had this same problem on the RT?

Feel free to `check me out` by doing a search on my forum name (sadly I lack imagination) but i can assure you this isn`t a spoof or wind up!

Hi there - to be honest it wasn`t all my design - I just took an idea (which I knew nothing about) and created something and thankfully the client said it was spot on.

All it is is a plate which is cunningly made to strenthan the rear rack - I`ve got some images of it somewhere and will try to post them as soon as I can.

So, bear with me, I`m a very busy fool nowadays but thanks for the reply as I had an idea it wasn`t isolated...................

Here are some images of what I am talking about, the plate is strong enough to reinforce the OEM rack but thin enough to allow it to be `formed` over the radius of the rack as the fasteners pull it into place.

My cracked too . I put it down to the rubber parts which are under the top box ( where the locking mechanism engages) . With time they compress and the box develops a play/wobble , a few mm . New rubbers solved the problem but the damage was done to the silver plastic ( the base was not damaged) a new rack is around £250.
I don't see how a sheet of metal will stop the vibration reaching the plastic.
The only solution is to check the top box on a regular base and make sure is fixed solid to the rack and there is no play.

Still it looks good

Oh dear but I am pleased you got it sorted - I take your point and we'll have to see what the client says long term on it but obviously I hope it works - £60 is much better than £250!
