Round 'n' round in circles.........
What is the maximum kgs that you can load onto the plastic raised rack area?

I thought that I had read it in the manual somewhere, but if it is there, then I cannot find it again

Just my tuppence worth.

The rear rack flexes under load . I wouldnt put too much on there at all.
Why not buy an after market steel one , it would take a good weight.

3 bags of vegetables, 1 bag of chilled produce and a six pack of beer, in your case :thumb

however, it depends on how good the checkout assistant is in packing for you. :)

As you say there is nothing in the manual and also nothing on the dealer service CD rom.

Any recommendation will be on the low side, when I fitted an aftermarket rack to the standard rear GS plate it was marked with a maximum of 7.5kg and that was with the support arms fitted into the rear sub frame.

As you have the Zegas and don't need the mounting points for varios fit a GSA rear rack, not only stronger but lowers the load bed considerably. :thumb

Half the pannier load..

5 kgs, (11 lbs).

:type

Bugger......I want to put a 6.4kgs tent on it.

When I am am riding solo its not a problem, the tent will go across where the rear seat was.

However, Mrs BTBR wants to go away camping for a weekend on the bike. So I wondered if the rack would support the weight of the tent, looks like it wont.

Shame.....we cannot go then :bounce1

But I have seen on the Wunderlich website a couple of support brackets to help support the rack. Maybe I'll check those out before I break the bad news to her.;)

Could you look at mounting it on one of the panniers then?

That's what I usually do as my tent is a bit too much on the big side for chucking on top of the usually already over-laden top box.

Just a thought. :)

Alan,
SW-Motech, who make a top box rack that mounts directly to the standard rack without any support arms, say 12kg max weight.
This is their rack.

Most of them quote weight with a topbox, Motech quote max weight without top box.

6.4kg shouldl not be a problem (disclaimer this is a personal opinion and in the event of it being a problem it's your problem not my problem so don't try and make it my problem or I'll send the boys round and then you really will have a problem! :D ) as when we did the East Midlands last year I had our big tent and stuff on the stock rack and the weight was about 15kg.

Shall I let Mrs BTBR know or will you? :augie

depending on how good the checkout assistant looks, you might want to stick her on the rack
