I am new to the gs had the bike a 2005 for a week, I wanted to setup the rear shock for rebound. I have read the manual and it refers to 1.5 turns out from max as the standard setting, the adjuster just seems to turn and doesent seem to have any stops either max or min, I have tried pushing in the screw but it seems the same. ??? Help.:thedummy

The adjuster should turn with a little stiffness, maybe three or four revolutions in total. The difference between fully soft and fully hard is VERY noticeable. If however you are saying that your adjuster just turns freely and never comes to a stop then it is broken. This happened on one of my 1100s a few years ago. At first the adjuster just became stiffer and stiffer and then went all loose.......it was cheaper to replace with a Ohlins than a new BMW shock.

The damping effect in your shock will be set at the point that the adjuster broke - this means that if the bike rides OK then you should be able to live with it. If however it broke on a lower setting and you like to load up the bike you may find a new shock a good idea.

if you bought the bike from a dealer you should have some sort of warranty.

Jon, The damping adjusts harder or softer if you push in the screw as you adjust it but it doesent seem to have any stops, it just keeps turning, do you know how many full turns there is normally.

Push the screw in whilst adjusting you say?? It would seem that by pushing in you are reconnecting the adjuster - if that works then just set it where it 'works' for you.
When mine broke the connection was severed and would not adjust at all. The adjuster is meant to turn just a few times (I am away from home at the moment so can't tell you how many rotations) with a stop at the end of the adjustment range.

I had this symptom on mine. The dealer's diagnosis was that the shock was unfit for further service and needed replacing, which they did. The replacement provided damping which the original never did. The joys of ones first Bavarian tractor.

Same happened to me. It's knackered.

Still been riding my bike for a bit, but I have a shiny new, fully adjustable, aftermarket WP item now!
