Rear shock pre load adjuster on my 2006 R1200GS was stuck solid when i got the bike so not sure what setting it was on
Bike rode fine if a little firm

I bought another complete rear shock from as advertised low mileage 2006 bike
This shock has 30 clicks on preload adjuster so set as per manual 10 turns clockwise from fully anti clockwise
I noted this shock has a gray spring as opposed to a black one on the original shock

Just carried out test ride (short its bloody cold out there today) it rides a little soft apposed to the original one

Question

Why the colour difference ?

No idea about the colour difference but the 10 clicks is for a light rider. No idea if that fits you or not. Your damping might be set soft as well.

Hi Guys

Thanks for posts

Just checked eBay info again
Shock was advertised as 2005>2009 that answers the colour change

Yes think 10 clicks is a little low for a 90 kg rider working on being 80kg by summer

Once I've got there I'm hoping to treat myself to a HP 2 Enduro for racing and rallys in 2017 of I can find one !!!

My 09 has a black spring. Still find it a bit soft on the whole and I'm only 85kg. Makes for a comfy ride though. Can push it through the twisties but I need to put the damping on sport to help.

Hi
How many clicks are there on a stranded 2016 rear shock ?

Just cleaned the old black spring rear shock up and released the high low clicker

I can only get ten clicks

On the gray spring rear shock i can get 30

Hi - I would quite like to experiment with a complete rear shock and it does not really matter to me if the clicks work at all or not........

If you would be interested in selling your old one maybe send me an e-mail please - [email protected]

Cheers.

It would be wise to have the replacement shock rebuilt. Due to ignorance I once used a really nice (used) Dutch made WP emission shock until the damping packed up. When I took it for rebuild they could not get the parts exactly right and the end result was rock hard damping the broke the forked mounting foot. Basically I over-used and so scrapped what should have been a very good shock absorber.

The usable life on the used shock might not be what you'd expect it to be.
