Hi all.

I own a 2016 1200GS watercooled. To date 24000 klms. Never had two on bike, never off road never overloaded. Boing boing boing what the hell rear shock gone. It is ESA model. Took the bike to BMW dealer where purchased. Bright spark mechanic looked at bike. Rear shock gone riding on spring. That will be 2200euro sir and 100euro labour . What, my god. Bike has full BMW service.
Anyone had this issue before. What would you do folks.

The Missenden Flyer had a similar problem. Worth checking his youtube stuff.

The answer to your problem turns upon how mechanically competent you are: Could you remove and replace the shock absorber yourself? If yes, then factor in return postage cost to Denzo add about £150ish for his fee and you’re sorted. Next option, find an independent mechanic to do the work and add his/her costs to the above. Next option, pay BMW to repair your 4 year old bike - point out the full service history and ask them to ask BMW for a good will contribution.

Denzo did mine . Fast turnaround bike rides very smooth and comfortable with all modes working. I was £215 but mine needed extra work because of corrosion. That was on a 2017 shock 20000 miles.

Send it to Denz0. They are a piece of piss to remove - two bolts and a plug. If Denz0 can't fit you in then Firefox racing do them too.
It'll come back as good as new for about 10% the price of a new one.

Yes, at 17000 miles on a 1200RT 2006 model, lost all the oil outside the dealer:blast. I had extended warranty and was replaced gratis, shock & handlebar controller, The final bill was around £1800. The warranty at the time for the shock had a cut of point at around 18000. I understated that is now extended to over 25000 miles.

If you purchased from a dealer I assume the bike has some sort of warranty.

+2 for Denzo.

Total ESA shock rebuild, custom spring for my weight and preferences, shimmed for a little bit of height reduction. Perfect job and very, very reasonably priced.

Talk to Lukasz.

Mine went mid tour in Portugal on a 2103 model when the bike was 4 years old.

I had extended the warranty though if abroad you have to pay for it yourself and claim when back in the UK.

Bit nerve racking when you have an 1800 Euro bill to pay away from home, BUT when I went to pick it up from the Portuguese dealer 3 days after dropping it off they confirmed BMW had agreed to complete the work FOC which was a nice touch. Bike was in pristine condition, less than 20K miles and full BMW service history all of which I think worked in my favour.

Good luck getting yours fixed.
