Rear Shock Leaking, also need stainless fastener kit

Hello All,
Just notice last Saturday after riding two up with my girlfriend(twos her limit) my rear shock was leaking. Does this mean a new shock? Can I get the old shock reconditioned? If so who and where? My bike has 40,000 miles on it from new 01 1150. Any advice here greatly appreciated. Also as I am keeping the bike and have no intention of buying a new one for at least another year I would consider an Ohlins shock if it needs a new one that is. Is it easy to fit?
Im also in the market for a stainless set of fasteners for the bike, lots of nagging rust on bolts etc. Anyone know ow best to remove rust from spokes?

Shock can't be rebuilt. I just had a new one fitted under warantee. Out of warantee its £338 inc fitting.

Go for an Ohlins or any other top notch aftermarket shock. Very easy to fit - even I can do it

Caledonian Engineering in Glasgow rebuilt the rear shocker for my 1150 just over a year ago and did a fine job for £100ish. Still seems ok (search the forum for the contact details as lots of people seem to have used them)

Steptoe used to sell Stainless kits, not sure if he has any now.

Shocks can be rebuilt - not sure where in Ireland, but a few places will recon here on the mainland

Did my RT Showa unit a while back. About £120ish. Can be recommended.

BMW shocks CAN be rebuilt.

Had a similiar problem last year, decided that I did not want a recoditioned shock but did not have the money for Ohlin's etc. Went for a Hagon £250 which has been fine.

Stainless kits from Steptoe are excellent if you can get hold of one.

A 'dealer' wouldn't. It's all down to machining up a new damper rod, fitting a new seal and then drilling and tapping a schrader valve to fill it up with nitrogen. If you have these skills and experience you could probably rebuild any shock. The springs would only wear out due to damage/corrosion.

Used Prolink ( Cardy). for an Ohlins rear shock for my Aprilia, Clarence didn't charge for fitting it. He fitted upgraded springs and valves to the forks also. Much better handling than standard. Thoroughly recommend them. (They do a lot of work for the road racers too).
